Methods and systems for developing a prototype pulse in real-time. A method includes detecting, by a signal processor, a plurality of repetitive pulse signals carried in energy waves received at an antenna. The method further includes estimating time intervals corresponding to occurrences of the plurality of repetitive pulse signals and extracting a plurality of pulse signal segments detected by the signal processor during each of the time intervals over a time period. The signal processor selects a first pulse signal segment received during one of the time intervals and calculates respective time delays relative to the first pulse signal segment for each remaining pulse signal segment of the plurality of pulse signal segments. The signal processor then time-aligns the extracted pulse signal segments with the first pulse signal segment and averages the pulse signal segments to establish a prototype pulse signal.

Methods and systems for establishing prototype pulses

A bistatic radar system may include a transmitter, a target at a first known position, a receiver at a second known position, and a transmitter position determination unit. The receiver is configured to receive one or more reflected radar signals transmitted from the transmitter and reflected off the target. The receiver is configured to receive one or more direct radar signals transmitted from the transmitter. The transmitter position determination unit is configured to determine a position of the transmitter based on a determination of a distance between the first and second known positions and a determination of a first angular difference between the reflected radar signal(s) and the direct radar signal(s) that are received by the receiver.

Systems and methods for determining a position of a transmitter of a bistatic radar system

A signal processing method is provided. The signal processing method includes receiving, at a signal processing system, a signal of interest, calculating, using the signal processing system, a power spectral density for the signal of interest, calculating, using the signal processing system, a basis vector based on the power spectral density shape, performing, using the signal processing system, a linear regression using the basis vector to generate an estimate for at least one parameter of the signal of interest, and transmitting, based on the at least one generated estimate, a signal that avoids interference with the signal of interest.

A system for estimating an angle of arrival of a signal includes an object, a movable component that is movably coupled to the object, and at least first and second spaced-apart antennas coupled to the movable component. The system also includes a controller that is configured to estimate an angle of arrival of a signal based on a difference between a time the signal arrives at the first antenna and a time the signal arrives at the second antenna while the movable component is moving, and a difference between a frequency of arrival of the signal at the first antenna and a frequency of arrival of the signal at the second antenna while the movable component is moving.

A method and apparatus for detecting signals. According to an embodiment, energy waves are received at a first receiver system and a second receiver system. The first receiver system generates first information using the energy waves received at the first receiver system. The first receiver system receives second information generated using the energy waves received at the second receiver system from the second receiver system. The first receiver system identifies desired information about a repetitive portion of a signal carried in the energy waves received at the first receiver system using the first information and the second information.

Method and apparatus for detecting and classifying signals

A bank of order statistic filters applied to a set of antenna or transducer beams are used to detect and determine the line-of-bearing to the source of transient RF (or other, e.g., acoustic) signals. By applying order statistic filters to signals received by a set of antenna or transducer beams, this system sets a detection threshold that is unaffected by transient signals, thereby allowing the detection of these transient signals. Knowing which antenna beam the transient signals are located within allows the determination of a line of bearing to the source of the transient signals.

Methods provided by this description may include receiving input signals for classification, and deriving specified signal parameters from the input signals. These methods may also compare the specified signal parameter to signal parameters derived from training signals, with the training signals being associated with predefined signal classes. These methods may also classify the input signals based on this comparison of the signal parameters, as derived respectively from the input signals in the training signals.

Computationally efficient signal classifier

A method of processing a timing synchronization signal includes selecting an initial sequence of complex numbers and modifying the initial sequence based upon a metric applied to the autocorrelation function to enhance its autocorrelation properties within a predetermined window about the main autocorrelation peak determined by the timing uncertainty of the system. This two-step optimization process produces a new complex sequence used for timing acquisition. It is applied by transmitting the sequence through a medium and correlating the received signal against a known error-free sequence. Only correlation within the window of the bounded timing uncertainty is performed, thus saving valuable computational cycles. Also, because the sidelobe levels of the autocorrelated function are significantly lower within the timing uncertainty window than the sidelobe levels of a non-optimized autocorrelation function of a signal, the likelihood of finding a peak for the wrong timing signal is greatly reduced.

Method for fine timing acquisition

A non-linear, order-statistic filter that is able to detect transients within an ambient signal environment without the transients affecting the setting of the transient detection threshold. The filter obtains a power spectral estimate (PSE) signal for each one of a plurality of predetermined bandwidth portions of the ambient input signal. Specific PSE magnitude values making up the PSE signal are sorted and ordered from smallest to largest. An average PSE magnitude value is obtained for a preselected center range of the specific PSE magnitude values, and this value is used to set the transient signal detection threshold for the filter.
