Provided are photoacoustic imaging contrast agents that include at least one radiation-absorbing component comprising a bacteriochlorin, a metallobacteriochlorin, a derivative thereof, or a combination thereof. Also provided are methods for using the disclosed photoacoustic imaging contrast agents either singly or in combination for generating an image of a volume, optionally a subject or a body part, cell, tissue, or organ thereof. Further provided are compositions and methods for multiplex photoacoustic imaging of a volume, optionally a subject or a body part, cell, tissue, or organ thereof using photoacoustic imaging contrast agents that include a plurality of the presently disclosed bacteriochlorins, metallobacteriochlorins, and/or derivatives thereof simultaneously.

Hydroporphyrins for photoacoustic imaging

Provided are fluorescent microparticles and/or nanoparticles that have a polymeric matrix and at least one porphyrinic macrocycle associated therewith. The porphyrinic macrocycles associated with the presently disclosed fluorescent microparticles and/or nanoparticles are in some embodiments selected from the group consisting of porphyrins (including 17,18-didehydrophorbines), chlorins (including phorbines), bacteriochlorins (including bacteriophorbines), and isobacteriochlorins (including isobacteriochlorins containing a fused 'E' ring). In some embodiments, the porphyrinic macrocycles have structures selected from Formulas I and H. Also provided are populations made up of a plurality of distinct fluorescent microparticles and/or nanoparticles, methods of making and using the same, sets of separately detectable fluorescent microparticles and/or nanoparticles and methods for preparing and using the same, porphyrinic macrocycle-containing dyads conjugated to particles and methods for using the same to calibrate multi-laser flow cytometers, align and/or calibrate confocal fluorescence microscopes, and/or differentially labeling cells and/or other biomolecules, and biomolecules such as antibodies, fragments, and derivatives thereof covalently conjugated to the presently disclosed fluorescent microparticles and/or nanoparticles and/or to the presently disclosed porphyrinic macrocycle-containing dyads.

Metallohydroporphyrins for photoacoustic imaging

The invention relates to devices for continuously measuring the concentrations of more than one target analyte. Specifically, the devices comprise a plurality of analyte binding domains, with each domain being capable of specifically and reversibly binding to at least one of the target analytes. The devices further comprise a membrane surrounding these binding domains that is permeable to the target analytes. The devices convey binding information to a detector. The invention also relates to methods of using the devices, including monitoring chronic disease states in an individual.

Multianalyte sensor

The present invention relates to methods of using spectroscopically detectable labeled receptor molecules to determine the presence or absence of a target compound in a sample. In one embodiment, spectroscopically detectable labeled nucleic acid ligands are used to determine the presence or absence of biological targets of interest in biological samples.
