A thrust washer for a bearing assembly having increased strength, decreased weight and improved oil flow for lubrication and/or cooling of the bearing assembly. The thrust washer includes an annular washer body surrounding a central axis. The washer body has first and second opposite axial sides, and each axial side includes a plurality of alternating radially-extending ridges and channels that define oil flow passageways. In one example, the thrust washer is a stamped component.

A bearing configuration for an oil pump assembly is disclosed herein. The bearing configuration includes a first radially extending hydrodynamic bearing element configured to directly face a first axial side of a gear, a second radially extending hydrodynamic bearing element configured to directly face a second axial side of the gear, and an axially extending hydrodynamic bearing element configured to directly face a radially inner side of the gear. The bearing configuration is configured to be used to support an idler gear in a transmission assembly, in one example.

Hydrodynamic bearing arrangement for pump assembly

A bearing shunt includes a metal washer, a conductive washer made from a carbon fiber mesh, and a metal cover. The metal washer includes a first annular surface, a lip protruding axially from the first annular surface, and a first plurality of lubricant flow holes. The conductive washer includes a second annular surface contacting the first annular surface and a second plurality of lubricant flow holes aligned with the first plurality of lubricant flow holes. The metal cover is disposed radially inside of the lip and contacts the conductive washer. The metal cover includes a third plurality of lubricant flow holes aligned with the first plurality of lubricant flow holes.

Bearing shunt

An improved configuration for a bearing housing assembly is disclosed herein in which a ring can be configured to be secured in at least two positions such that the bearing assembly positioned inside of the housing can be retained in either a fixed state or a floating state. The ring can be configured to be secured at least partially within the housing in at least a first configuration and a second configuration, such that: (i) the ring is configured to abut the bearing assembly in the first configuration such that the bearing assembly is axially fixed relative to the housing, and (ii) the ring is configured to be spaced apart from the bearing assembly in the second configuration such that the bearing assembly is axially displaceable within the housing.

Bearing housing assembly and ring configured to provide multiple modes of operation

A bearing includes a washer and a retention band. The washer includes an annular portion, a cylindrical outer flange, and a radius portion connecting the outer portion to the flange. The retention band includes a cylindrical ring disposed radially inside of the cylindrical outer flange, and a tab extending radially outward from the cylindrical ring. In an example embodiment, the tab extends radially outside of the washer. In some example embodiments, the cylindrical ring has a split. In an example embodiment, the split is circumferentially offset from the tab. In an example embodiment, the retention band also includes an axial leg connecting the tab to the cylindrical ring. In an example embodiment, the retention band has exactly one tab. In an example embodiment, the retention band has a plurality of circumferentially spaced tabs.

Retained thrust bearing

A cage assembly for a bearing includes a first cage half and a second cage half. The first cage half includes a first annular section with a first plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures for receiving a plurality of rolling elements, and a first cylindrical section arranged for positioning the cage assembly on a first shaft. The second cage half includes a second annular section with a second plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures for receiving the plurality of rolling elements, and a second cylindrical section arranged for positioning the cage assembly on a second shaft. In an example embodiment, the first cylindrical section or the second cylindrical section has an aperture for radial flow of a lubricant.

Thrust bearing cage with dual piloting flanges and oil inlet channels

A thrust bearing cage includes a piloting feature to radially locate a thrust bearing with respect to one of the shafts. Specifically, the bearing cage includes an axial extension at an outer diameter that extends beyond the rollers and around an outer diameter of end of the shaft. This feature permits elimination of a washer.

Thrust bearing cage with piloting flange

A bearing module that supports adjacent ends of coaxial shafts, includes an outer ring having first and second axially adjacent raceways and first and second flanges located at the respective ends. A first group of rolling elements rolls on the first raceway, and a second group of rolling elements rolls on the second raceway. A first cage retains the first group of rolling elements circumferentially spaced apart from one another, and a second cage retains the second group of rolling elements. An axial bearing is retained axially between the first and second groups of rolling elements, and has axial bearing rolling elements that are configured for rolling contact with (a) facing axial side raceways on first and second inner rings supported respectively on the first and second groups of rolling elements, (b) the adjacent ends of the two coaxial shafts, or (c) integral washers of the axial bearing.

Bearing module for coaxial shaft ends

A bearing, including: an inner ring defining a first groove; an outer ring including a radially inner surface, the radially inner surface facing an axis of rotation of the bearing and defining a second groove and a third groove; a cage radially disposed between the inner ring and the outer ring; a plurality of balls retained by the cage, and disposed in the first groove, and in the second groove; and a preloaded resilient washer assembly including a rigid washer and a resilient washer including a radially outermost surface disposed in the third groove. The resilient washer urges the rigid washer away from the outer ring in an axial direction parallel to an axis of rotation of the bearing.

Bearing with integrated axial preload and method thereof

A double row axial roller bearing assembly includes a compressible ring between the two rows. This compressible ring prevents excessive axial forces if the respective shafts impact one another after becoming axially separated. One embodiment is fully unitized such that all parts of the bearing assembly remain with one of the two shafts if the shafts become axially separated. Another embodiment is semi-unitized such that one row of rollers and the compressible ring remain with one of the shafts while the other row of rollers remains with the other shaft. In both cases, all bearing components are prevented from falling out of position such that they return to their proper axial and radial position when the shafts come back together.

Expandable stacked thrust bearing assembly

A thrust bearing having an inner cage having inner cage pockets, with inner rollers in the inner cage pockets, and a first outer cage having a larger diameter than the inner cage and having first outer cage pockets, with first outer rollers in the first outer cage pockets. The inner cage and the first outer cage are axially and radially aligned. A radially extending rim is provided on one circumferential side of one of the inner cage or the first outer cage that faces a facing circumferential side of the other of the inner cage or the first outer cage. First and second radially extending side tabs are provided on the facing circumferential side of the other of the inner cage or the first outer cage that define a circumferentially extending channel therebetween that receives the radially extending rim to connect the cages together.

Multiple row thrust bearings

A hydrodynamic bearing includes an annular washer having an annular face configured to form a hydrodynamic thrust bearing. The annular face defines a plurality of circumferentially spaced oil grooves having opposing first and second lips extending between inner and outer diameters of the face. The annular face further defines a plurality of circumferentially spaced thrust segments alternating with the grooves such that each of the thrust segments is disposed between an associated pair of first and second ones of the grooves. Each of the thrust segments includes a land that is raised on the face relative to the first and second lips of the associated pair, a first ramp extending from the second lip of the first groove to a first side of the land, and a second ramp extending from the first lip of the second groove to a second side of the land.

Hydrodynamic bearing

A roller bearing includes a first race, a second race, and a cage disposed between the first and second races. The cage has an inner rim and a plurality of webs extending radially outboard from the inner rim and being circumferentially arranged around the inner rim to be spaced apart to define pockets. The webs have flanges that extend axially. Portions of the inner rim form inner guide surfaces of the pockets. The cage further includes a wavy outer rim circumscribing the inner rim. The outer rim has radially outer portions attached to the flanges and radially inner portions forming outer guide surfaces of the pockets. The outer rim and the flanges cooperate to define cutouts interleaved with the webs. Cylindrical roller elements are disposed in the pockets between the first and second races and have first ends adjacent the inner guide surfaces and second ends adjacent the outer guide surfaces.

High-speed bearing

A stacked thrust bearing arrangement including a central washer arranged between a first and second bearing assembly is disclosed. The central washer is axially positioned between a first inner bearing ring of the first bearing assembly, and a second inner bearing ring of the second bearing assembly. An inner sleeve defines a first retention flange adapted to engage a first cage of the first bearing assembly, and a second retention flange adapted to engage a second cage of the second bearing assembly.

Stacked thrust bearing arrangement

A method of assembling a thrust bearing arrangement is disclosed. The method includes (a) providing a thrust bearing assembly. The thrust bearing assembly includes a support washer. The support washer includes a radially outer rim defining a plurality of slots extending radially outward from the radially outer rim. The method includes (b) providing a spring plate. The spring plate includes projections at a radially outer region. The projections extend in an axial direction. The method includes (c) aligning the projections of the spring plate with the slots of support washer. The method includes (d) deforming the projections of the spring plate to retain the thrust bearing assembly with the spring plate.
