The disclosed technology relates to solutions for improving a firmware update mechanism and in particular, for improving a firmware update mechanism of a power distribution board by utilizing different boot procedures. A process of the disclosed technology can include steps for receiving, at a microcontroller, a firmware update, wherein the firmware update is transmitted by a computer powered by a power distribution board associated with the microcontroller, initiating, by the microcontroller, a warm boot procedure using the firmware update, and marking the warm boot procedure as successful if a message received from the computer indicates that the firmware update is successful. In some aspects, the process can further include steps for determining a power reset of the computer, initiating, by the microcontroller, a cold boot procedure using the firmware update, and marking the firmware update as proven if the message from the computer indicates that the firmware update is successful. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

A computer-implemented method may include receiving, by a computing system on an autonomous vehicle, local weather data and routing data of the autonomous vehicle, the autonomous vehicle including a sensor platform mounted on the autonomous vehicle. The method may include based on the local weather data and the routing data, predicting, by the computing system using a thermal model, a thermal loading and a temperature of a component(s) of a sensor platform at one or more future times, the thermal loading and the temperature being during an operation of the autonomous vehicle. The method may include sending an overheating warning to a controller of the autonomous vehicle based on a determination that the thermal loading or the temperature of the component(s) exceeds a threshold. The method may include reporting a degraded state of the autonomous vehicle to park prior to a predicted overheating of the component(s).

The subject disclosure relates to techniques for updating a bootloader on a embedded device. In some aspects, a process of the disclosed technology can include steps for calculating a digest for an existing bootloader stored on the bootloader memory, determining if the digest for the existing bootloader matches a digest for a target bootloader, and copying the target bootloader to the bootloader memory, if the digest for the existing bootloader does not match the digest for the target bootloader.
