A method for making a grooved-end pipe fitting from standard pipe includes the steps of bending length of pipe on a press mandrel to form a curved pipe segment with an oval cross section and further working the curved pipe segment in a die to produce tangent end portions. The die cavity is shaped with a central curved portion and tangent end portions. The inner and outer radii of curvature of the central curved portion are greater than the inner and outer radii of the curved pipe segment, and are greater than the corresponding radii of curvature of a conventional cast fitting. As a result, the curved pipe segment can be shaped to conform to the shape of the cavity without buckling or bowing of the inner radius wall of the pipe. The tangent ends of the die shaped pipe are grooved in a subsequent step.

Method and apparatus for making pipe line steel grooved-end fittings

An improved pipe branch fitting for use with a pipe having a pre-cut hole is disclosed. The branch fitting has a cylindrical body freely slidable along the pipe to a point where the hole is pre-cut. On one side, the cylindrical body carries an internally threaded boss into which a modified sprinkler head may be threaded. A gasket positioned between the sprinkler head and the pipe gives the seal as the sprinkler head bears upon the gasket upon tightening of the sprinkler head. The inner end of the modified sprinkler head has a stepped shoulder which abuts the periphery of the hole in the pipe and limits compression applied to the gasket. A reduced diameter end portion of the modified sprinkler head locates itself in the hole and indicates if the fitting is misaligned with the hole. The end walls of the body are each tapered toward the boss to facilitate the sliding of the cylindrical body, when assembled on the pipe are supporting structures of a building in which the piping system is being installed.

Pipe branch fitting and branch appliance therefor

A novel terminal outlet fitting for use in sprinkler systems with a standard split-sleeve sealing coupling engaging the fitting and a standard grooved end pipe, in order to provide an oriented pressure outlet to which a sprinkler head may be fitted. The fitting provides a high efficiency low pressure drop, streamlined flow so that effective sprinkler discharges is achieved. The process avoids the previously labor intensive high cost welding attachment of a connection outlet over a hole drilled through the pipe wall, characterized by poor flow characteristics, and the need to provide a separate pipe end closure and effects a material saving in piping. The novel fitting and its method of use effects significant direct cost savings, in material and on-site labor, and provides a more effective sprinkler system.

Pipe line termination system

A side-outlet pipe coupling having a split housing surrounding split-ring gasket means is provided. Lugs formed at the free ends of the gasket means position said gasket means within the coupling housing such that abutting free ends of the gasket means are off-set from the plane of splitting of the housing.

Pipe coupling with gasket locating means

A self-compensation gasket for grooved end pipe couplings for use in sealing the joint between the pipe ends. An 'immediate' seal at the pipe end gap serves as a barrier to possible entry of solids into the internal working section of the gasket. Compression pads on the outside diameter of the gasket concentrate the loading of the gasket in a localized manner such that a high compression loading may be insured.
