A wireless patient monitor is adapted to communicate with any one of plural medical telemetry networks, each having one or more central stations, where each network is configured to communicate via wireless communications using one of multiple different communications settings. The monitor includes one or more sensor inputs for receiving vital signs data from a patient, a wireless transceiver, and a controller coupled to receive the vital signs data via the one or more sensor inputs and to communicate with a network via the transceiver. The monitor also includes a display device and is controllable by the controller to automatically display a notification to a user of the monitor upon establishing communications with the at least one central station. There is also a method of monitoring a patient and a wireless medical telemetry system.

Patient monitoring system

A medical monitoring system includes a central station adapted to receive vital signs data concerning a plurality of patients, and one or more transmitter/receivers associated with the central station. At least one patient monitor is configured to monitor a particular one of the plurality of patients by collecting vital signs data from the particular patient, and configured to establish communications with the central station and communicate the collected vital signs data to the central station via the one or more transmitter/receivers. The at least one patient monitor is operable by a user to identify the particular patient from the plurality of patients, and to inform the central station of the identity of the particular patient. The central station is configured to associate the vital signs data received from the at least one patient monitor with the particular patient. The system, transmitter/receivers and at least one patient monitor may be wireless or wired. There is also a method for monitoring a patient.

A method and system for patient monitoring wherein data acquired by parameter measuring modules is downloaded to an information processing and display station. Table data structures resident within the modules are downloaded to the display station during initialization of the module on the link. The tables completely define the number, functionality and visual attributes of all control keys associated with each channel of the module. The tables include: text and parse tables which define the number, size, attributes and text for each key; a process table which contains a plurality of control programs which are executed by an interpreter portion of the display software in response to activations of a control key; and a channel control table which modifies the operating conditions of the channel in response to preselected control keys. A module header table is provided which defines display memory requirements of the tables for the module's channels, and an active-module table provided by the display station maintains a list of modules active on the link and the location of the module header tables once they are downloaded.

Table driven multichannel data acquisition and display for signal

A crossed light beam coordinate detection and encoding system having a plurality of emitter/detector pairs along each axis of the display space is disclosed. The emitters are modulated in amplitude and the detectors are biased with a low load resistance to provide a wide dynamic range. The wide dynamic range and amplitude modulation detection provides immunity to unwanted interference. After band pass filtering, the carrier is amplified by high gain amplifier with auto bias control. The output of the amplifier generates a true/false output corresponding to the presence/absence of a beam. A single chip microprocessor controller checks the screen for interrupted beams and when not clear generates coordinates of the interrupted beams. The coordinates can be calculated as a weighted average of the interrupted beams for each axis or as the min and max coordinates along each axis. Reporting is done repeatedly at preselected time intervals. Error information is generated each time the coordinates are generated to report errors such as too large or too small an object or a discontinuous object. Repeated reportings beyond the initial reporting of a coordinate of the interrupted beams can be locked out in response to the position of the interrupted beams in the display space. Diagnostics of the system can be performed at 100% and 90% output levels of the emitters. This allows diagnostics to detect marginal operation of the screen.

Radiant beam coordinate detector system

A method for dynamically assigning addresses to new modules as they are coupled to a communication system with a synchronous data link control (SDLC) bus is described. These modules communicate with a display unit via the SDLC bus. The SDLC bus is controlled by a primary station in the display unit, with all modules acting as secondary stations. The primary station periodically broadcasts a time-tag to all modules at a thirty-two hertz rate. At power up, each module obtains a number, module 16, derived from the lower four bits of its unique twenty-four bit serial number. The module uses this number as a count of the number of time-tags which must occur before the module responds to the primary with an address request. If there are no collisions with other modules, the primary sends the module a packet which assigns the module the next available address. In the event of a collision (i.e., two or more modules request an address at the same time), the primary SDLC controller detects a CRC error and ignores the SDLC frame. The modules will each time-out and obtain a new number, modulo 16, derived from the next significant four bits of the module serial number. This process continues until the module obtains an address.
