A method and device for properly mixing stabilizing chemicals into earthen formations. A helical blade of one or more convolutions is attached to a hollow torque tube and rotated down into the soil. As the device is rotated through the soil to be stabilized, chemicals are pumped down the torque tube, out the device, and then mixed into a soil column by the rotating action of the device.

The present invention is a method and an apparatus for reducing marine growth on an offshore oil platform member. The device uses a buoyant member coupled with a sleeve to scrape the exterior surface of the platform members. The buoyant component floats on the surface of the water and takes advantage of the ocean energy (i.e., the variation of the water's surface height due to the tidal and surge responses) to move the device up and down on the member. The liner and the buoyant member are adjusted for size and buoyancy to ensure that scraping occurs in the areas of the members that are most vulnerable to attachment of marine organisms.

In accordance with the present invention, an impulse generator of high portability is provided using a pair of guillotinized, separately activated hammer/anvil sub-assemblies. Since each sub-assembly is horizontal positioned, say in contact with the earth from a position below the wheel of an exploration truck, the equivalent of the 'flying blade' of a guillotine, i.e., a weighted hammer element, must be provided with horizontal movement. This is done by tensioning a plurality of springs attached between the hammer element and a rectangular main frame. During cocking and release of the hammer, the explorationist is provided with a series of visual signals in the form of deactivated and activated panel lights. These signals are automatically provided by controller means of the present invention. Release of the cocked hammer, however, is operator controlled for safety reasons say by activation of a latching means attached to the main frame of the assembly.
