An aerosolization system includes a respiration system having an inspiratory limb and an expiratory limb. The system includes an aerosol chamber coupled with the inspiratory limb via a fluid channel. The fluid channel is disposed such that the aerosol chamber is isolated from continuous flow passing through the respiratory system. The system includes a patient interface positioned at a first location of the aerosol chamber and an aerosolization device positioned at a second location of the aerosol chamber positioned opposite the first location. The aerosolization device includes a reservoir that receives a volume of liquid medicament for aerosolization by the aerosolization device. The aerosol chamber mixes aerosolized medicament from the aerosolization device with respiratory flow received from the respiration system via the fluid channel.

Aerosol chamber and interface to optimize inhaled dose with neonatal CPAP device

A method of delivering aerosolized surfactant to an infant that includes interfacing an aerosolization device with an airway of an infant and aerosolizing, using the aerosolization device, a volume of surfactant into particles having a mass mean aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) of less than about 3 μm at a rate of at least 0.1 ml/min. The surfactant is aerosolized within about 1 to 8 cm from a patient interface. Aerosol is generated for up to approximately 80% or each inspiration. The method also includes delivering the aerosolized surfactant to the infant's airway.

Aerosol system and interface to deliver clinically and economically feasible inhaled dose with neonatal CPAP device

A supplemental oxygen delivery system is described in which Aerosol is delivered into a housing, which sits in the circuit from the supplemental oxygen supply and optional humidifier. The supplemental oxygen passes through this chamberin which the aerosol is located, and collects the aerosol transporting it to a patient via a nasal cannulaor a face mask. An aerosol generatoris mounted to the housingand delivers aerosol into an oxygen streamflowing between an inletand an outletof the housing. The housingalso has a removable plugin the basethereof for draining any liquid that accumulates in the housing. There is no disruption of oxygen delivery to patients using nasal cannulas who currently have to use a separate face-mask when receiving nebulized medication.

Supplemental oxygen delivery system

An aerosol transfer device for medical aerosol generators includes a body, fluidically coupled to a nebulizer and to a patient interface. An ambient air intake is formed into a lower body. The body is shaped and configured to optimize mixing of ambient air from the ambient air intake and the aerosol generated by the nebulizer, resulting in the formation of an aerosol plume having optimum characteristics for delivery of the aerosol to the patient's pulmonary system, such as the central or deep lung regions. The shape and dimensions of the body are further designed to minimize aerosol deposition, thus improving delivery efficiency.

There is no disruption of oxygen delivery to patients using nasal cannulas who currently have to use a separate face-mask when receiving nebulized medication.

An aerosol preparation assembly includes an entrainment chamber defining an entrainment volume. The entrainment chamber includes a gas inlet port, an aerosol inlet port and an outlet port. The entrainment chamber is configured such that a velocity of a flow of a gas within the entrainment volume is less than a velocity of the flow of the gas within the gas inlet port. The entrainment chamber is configured such that at least a portion of inlet aerosol is entrained into the flow of the gas within the entrainment volume to produce an entrained aerosol flow at the outlet port. The particle selection chamber is configured to receive the entrained aerosol flow and produce an outlet aerosol flow. The particle selection chamber and nozzle are collectively configured such that a volumetric median diameter of the outlet aerosol flow is less than a volumetric median diameter of the inlet aerosol.

Aerosol delivery systems, compositions and methods

A nebulizer to deliver a medicament that includes a housing having a reservoir for the medicament, an aerosol generator that can be supplied the medicament from the reservoir, where the generator aerosolizes at least a portion of the medicament into an aerosol, a gas venting inlet to permit a gas to enter the nebulizer and form a mixture with the aerosol, and a passage through which the mixture of the aerosol and the gas is delivered to an outlet port of the nebulizer.

A method of treating a patient with a pulmonary disease, where the method includes delivering a dose of aerosolized medicament intermittently to a ventilator circuit coupled to the respiratory system of the patient. Also, a method of treating a patient with a pulmonary disease, where the method includes taking the patient off a ventilator, and administering to the patient, a nebulized aerosol comprising from about 100 &#x3bc;g to about 500 mg of a medicament. Also a method of treating a patient with a pulmonary disease, the method comprising administering an aerosolized first medicament comprising amikacin to the patient and administering, systemically a second medicament comprising an antibiotic to the patient that also treats the pulmonary disease, wherein a resulting amikacin concentration in the lung and/or pulmonary system is therapeutically-effective, and an amount of the systemically administered antibiotics is reduced.

Methods and systems for operating an aerosol generator

A system for intermittent delivery of an aerosolized medicament is disclosed. The system may include an aerosol generator, a controller and a conduit. The aerosol generator may be configured to aerosolize a medicament. The controller may be configured to receive physiological characteristic information about a patient, and control the aerosol generator based at least in part on the physiological characteristic information. The conduit may be configured to supply the aerosolized medicament to the patient's airway.
