According to an exemplary embodiment, a retainer for therapeutic treatment may be provided. The retainer for therapeutic treatment may include: a retainer that may retain a antimicrobial solution against tissue; a number of heating elements connected to the retainer for therapeutic treatment; a number of power supply cables connected to the number of heating elements; a number of antimicrobial solution delivery elements connected to the retainer for therapeutic treatment that may deliver an antimicrobial solution; a number of pieces of tubing having a first end connected to a antimicrobial solution reservoir and a second end connected to a number of antimicrobial solution delivery elements; a number of fiber optic cables having a first end connected to a light source; and a number of light terminations rigidly connected to the retainer for therapeutic treatment and connected to the second end of the fiber optic cable.

The present techniques are directed to systems and methods for forming a pipe-conforming structure. The pipe-conforming structure includes a polymer material and one or more optic fibers embedded within the polymer material. The polymer material is formed into a structure that is conformed to the shape of a pipe. A method includes forming a polymer material into a structure including an edge region and a center region. The center region has a greater thickness than the edge region. The method includes inserting one or more optic fibers into the polymer material.

Pipe-conforming structure

An apparatus for introducing an implant into tissue is provided. The apparatus comprises a cartridge having proximal and distal ends, inner and outer surfaces, and a central bore extending therethrough having proximal and distal ends. An implant having proximal and distal ends is within the central bore. A piston is provided proximal to the implant and slidably maintained within the bore, whereby, during operation, the piston moves distally through the bore and urges the implant distally through the bore. The distal end of the cartridge includes a pressure-activated tip section enclosing the distal end of the bore. The bore is enclosed such that sterility of the implant within the bore can be maintained until the implant is released from the cartridge into the patient.

Apparatus and method for introducing an implant

A method for inserting an implant into a patient utilizing an apparatus comprising a cartridge having a body with a central bore. The body comprises at its proximal end a retention shoulder or hub adapted for retention by an insertion tool. The body further comprises a closure plug received in the proximal end of the bore that seals the bore and that has an exposed surface to engage a plunger rod from an insertion tool. The body further comprises a sealed distal tip of decreasing diameter from the outer surface of the body that terminates in a point adapted for penetrating a pre-existing body orifice or for piercing tissue during insertion into a patient. The tip is frangible into a plurality of segments under pressure exerted by the distal end of the implant, allowing the implant to emerge from the cartridge.

Methods for inserting an implant

An apparatus for the insertion of sterile implants comprising a cartridge having a body with a central bore. The body comprises at its proximal end a retention shoulder or hub adapted for retention by an insertion tool. The body further comprises a closure plug received in the proximal end of the bore that seals the bore and that has an exposed surface to engage a plunger rod from an insertion tool. The body still further comprises a sealed distal tip of decreasing diameter from the outer surface of the body that terminates in a point adapted for penetrating a pre-existing body orifice or for piercing tissue during insertion into a patient. The tip is frangible into a plurality of segments under pressure exerted by the distal end of the implant, allowing the implant to emerge from the cartridge.

Subcutaneous insertion device

A method of manufacturing a composite chip-removing tool which includes a tool body of a material which is in its molten state above a predetermined melting temperature, and at least one tipping element secured to the tool body, comprises positioning the tipping element on a model of the tool body that consists of a material that melts at a temperature considerably lower than the predetermined melting temperature, in a position relative to the model which the tipping element is to assume relative to the body, and simultaneously forming the tool body and a durable mechanical connection of the tipping element to the tool body in a precision casting operation involving replacement of the material of the model with the material of the tool body in its molten state. The model may be produced prior to or simultaneously with the positioning of the tipping element on the model. For establishing the durable connection, the tipping element is provided prior to its positioning on the model with at least one aperture which preferably has at least one cross-sectional enlargement and which is subsequently filled with the material of the tool body during the formation of the tool body, so that the material of the tool body which has penetrated into the aperture establishes a durable connection of the tipping element to the tool body. The model has at least one projection received in the aperture of the tipping element.

Method of manufacturing a tool

Mold halves are formed from thin, flexibly stiff, rigid polyvinyl chloride film having a thickness of 0.010 .+-. 0.003 inch and which is deformed to conform to opposite surface contours of a structure to be produced. The mold halves mate along a parting line to define a mold chamber in the shape of the desired structure and are formed with an access opening to the chamber, marginal regions coextensive about the chamber from the parting line, and conjugate protuberances on the marginal regions. The film is thin and pliable enough for pins to be inserted cross-wise through the protuberances to secure together the mold halves, yet thick and rigid enough to support casting material poured therein and flexible enough to be peeled from the partially set product.
