An overcoat application apparatus is used to transfer an overcoat material from a donor to a printed media. The overcoat application apparatus in this case includes a donor supply reel, a donor guide bar, a heated fuser guide, a pressure guide, an overcoat application peel apparatus, and a donor take-up reel. The donor supply reel provides a continuous source of donor plus overcoat material. The donor guide bar guides printed media and the donor plus overcoat into a nip created by forcing the heated fuser guide and pressure guide together. The heated fuser guide is used to transport the printed media and laminate carrying donor through the nip and apply heat to the laminate carrying donor and printed media. The pressure guide is used to apply pressure to the fuser guide in order to produce the mechanical nip. The nip plus the heat causes the overcoat material on the donor to be transferred to the printed media. After the fusing process, the peel bar is used to separate the support layer of the laminate carrying donor from the printed media that is now coated with the overcoat material. The overcoat application peel apparatus has three features that aid in the overall ability to perform the separation of the donor layer from the overcoated printed media. These are the first peel guide, the second peel guide and the take-up platen.

Overcoat application peel apparatus

A photofinishing apparatus is designed such that full bleed durable prints are produced with a high productivity and low waste generation process. The photofinishing apparatus in this case includes a printer and a finisher or post-print treatment processor. The printer is designed to produce media segment with multiple images of various formats. This media segment is then transported to the post-print treatment processor. The post-print treatment processor includes a dryer station, a durability station, a two-axis cutting station, and a print sorting station. The dryer performs the function of drying the media segment. The durability station performs the function of applying and or fixing durability material on the media segments. The two-axis cutting station includes slitting and chopping stations that performs the required two-axis cutting that produces the full bleed prints. Finally, the print sorting station performs the sorting of the prints such that the full bleed durable prints can be returned to customers.

Post-print treatment processor for a photofinishing apparatus

An image data transmission system minimizes image data source access cycles and serial transmission channel bandwidth requirements when supplying image data to a sparse LED array in a rotary printer. A subpixel data accessing unit is employed within the transmission system to compensate for the physical offset of red, green and blue diode sets in a page scan direction. A column correction unit is employed to accommodate redundant exposure of an image location by the diodes in a line scan direction. The subpixel data accessing unit preferably includes a set of First-In, First-Out (FIFO) memories, which receive input lines of image data with pixels organized as sets of three bytes corresponding the red, green and blue (RGB) information of unique physical locations of an image and output lines of image data with R, G and B components from pixels in offset input lines. The column correction unit preferably includes a tapped parallel shift register memory.

Data transmission system for sparse array print head

A reliable, low cost system for generating precisely aligned pixel clock and index signals for a digital scanning or printing system is based on the use of a phase locked loop multiplier to generate a sampling clock precisely synchronized to the drum position encoder sensor output. The sample clock frequency is chosen to be a large, known multiple M of the pixel clock frequency. The pixel clock is chosen to be the sample clock divided by M, making it the proper frequency. Pixel clock phase is established by resetting, on the trailing edge of an index signal generated by a line start index sensor, a .div.M counter used in deriving the pixel clock from the sample clock. The rising edge of the pixel clock is then established to within .+-.(1/M) pixel clock periods of the trailing edge of the index signal.

Line start synchronizer for raster scanner

A reliable, low cost system for generating precisely aligned pixel clock and index signals for a digital scanning or printing system is based on a novel single channel encoder pattern detected with a single sensor. The signal output of the sensor representing the encoder pattern is processed with phase locked loop based circuit to generate pixel clock and index signals of known and guaranteed phase.
