A system and method for the color correction of an image using three-dimensional, geometrical information of the capture environment of the image includes determining geometrical properties of at least a portion of the image and modifying a look of at least the portion of the image by altering a value of at least one of the determined geometrical properties and using image formation theory. In one embodiment of the present invention, the geometrical properties of the image include at least one of light properties, surface color, reflectance properties, and scene geometry of the at least one portion of the image. In accordance with the present invention, the geometrical properties of the image are alternatively determined by using sensing devices, by inferring the geometrical properties from the image itself, or by user input.

Method and system for color correction using three-dimensional information

At least one particular method and apparatus provide an enhanced quality low resolution image extracted from a scalable high resolution bit stream in a DCP bit stream. In various implementations, an enhancement layer is used to produce the enhanced low resolution image. The enhancement layer may include, for example, spatial-domain or frequency-domain information to be used to enhance the typical low resolution image extracted from a DCP bit stream. One specific process includes encoding a digital image into an encoded image. The encoded image is capable of being processed to provide a higher resolution decoding of the digital image and to provide a lower resolution decoding of the digital image. The process further includes encoding additional information for enhancing the lower resolution decoding to provide an enhanced lower resolution image. A complimentary signal and decoding process are also provided, as well as structures for performing the processes.

Enhancing image quality

A system and method for recovering three-dimensional (3D) particle systems from two-dimensional (2D) images are provided. The system and method of the present invention provide for identifying a fuzzy object in a two-dimensional (2D) image; selecting a particle system from a plurality of predetermined particle systems, the selected particle system relating to a predefined fuzzy object; generating at least one particle of the selected particle system; simulating the at least one particle to update states of the at least one particle; rendering the selected particle system; comparing the rendered particle system to the identified fuzzy object in the 2D image; and storing the selected particle system if the comparison result is within an acceptable threshold, wherein the stored particle system represents the recovered geometry of the fuzzy object.

System and method for recovering three-dimensional particle systems from two-dimensional images

A system and method for color correction of 3D images including at least two separate image streams captured for a same scene include determining three-dimensional properties of at least a portion of a selected image stream, the three-dimensional properties including light and surface reflectance properties, surface color, reflectance properties, scene geometry and the like. A look of the portion of the selected image stream is then modified by altering the value of at least one of the determined three-dimensional properties and, in one embodiment, applying image formation theory. The modifications are then rendered in an output 3D picture either automatically and/or according to user inputs. In various embodiments, corrections made to the selected one of the at least two image streams can be automatically applied to the other of the image streams.

Methods and systems for color correction of 3D images

A method and system for modeling light in time and space are provided. The method and system of the present disclosure collect light readings, e.g., on a motion picture set, at different positions and times to build a light model to be used for visual effects (VFX) compositing. The light model represents the light distribution across space and/or time for a predetermined physical space. Using the light model, the lighting can then be predicted or interpolated at intermediate or other positions and/or times for which no specific light readings were obtained. The light models can be used for rendering objects (e.g., natural or CG elements) in a scene as if they were in that space.

Method and system for modeling light

A movie anti-piracy system with sensing and reporting is provided. An anti-piracy subsystem is utilized to preclude, interfere with and/or prevent copying of the movie. Anti-piracy compliance sensing selectively provides compliance violation signals respectively to a sensor response controller. The controller is responsive to the compliance violation signals to provide a violation status (and other data) signal output to a control center. The control center responds to the violation status and other data signals, from one or a plurality of theaters, and provides for reporting of information (such as security compliance, attendance, etc.) to one or multiple reporting sites (such as movie distribution studios, etc.). A system and method for archiving films includes dividing a film feature into N parts. Metadata is digitally stored on each of the N parts of film. The film includes both analog and digital data representing an entire record of the film on a single media for at least one N part. For each N part, the single media may include all the color component images associated with that part.

A method for archiving a motion picture film can include capturing in a digital format at least one reference image set corresponding to at least one image from the motion picture film. At least one reference image set can be created which includes an unprocessed image captured, in the digital format, from an original camera negative. The image set can also include a processed image, stored in said digital format, that is a modified version of the unprocessed image. Subsequently, the reference image set can be recorded on a reference film medium to form a key frame reel. The key frame reel can thereafter be used to create monochrome color separations.

Method for preservation of motion picture film

A movie anti-piracy system with sensing and reporting is provided. A movie projector projects a light image to reflect off of a screen, while an infrared energy projection source generates an infrared energy pattern which is reflected off the screen (or otherwise projected) in the same field of view as the light images reflecting from the screen. Infrared energy sensors are positioned in the seating area of the theater. The infrared sensors provide sensed signals respectively to a sensor response controller. The controller is responsive to the sensor signals to provide an infrared status (and other data) signal output to a control center. The control center responds to the infrared status and other data signals, from one or a plurality of theaters, and provides for reporting of information (such as security compliance, attendance, etc.) to one or multiple reporting sites (such as movie distribution studios, etc.). In a preferred embodiment, the control center determines whether the infrared sensors or other data indicate violation of anti-piracy protection within a theater and provides reporting on the status and data. If a violation is indicated, then the control center sends a violation signal such as to the sensor response controller which can trigger an alarm and/or activate a violation inhibit output to shut down the movie projector. This shut down of the projector is an optional feature. In a preferred embodiment, the shut down can be overridden with the entry of an appropriate security code. A data entry subsystem permits entry of additional data, which is communicated as signal to the sensor response controller. The controller provides for processing the data from the data entry and communicating to the control center. The additional data can include ticket sales for one or more movies, attendance data, security code, etc. In a preferred embodiment, there are a plurality of theater systems, each of which has an equivalent anti-piracy system installed, each providing reporting back to the control center which provides overall system control.

Targeted anti-piracy system and methodology

This invention relates generally to a movie anti-piracy system with sensing and reporting features. Anti-piracy protection system and methodology

A security method and system for protecting movie film images from being recorded by video cameras. The system is comprised of a means to generate an infrared pattern and a means to display this infrared pattern. The infrared pattern generated and displayed is of sufficient strength such that video cameras with infrared filters can not prevent the infrared pattern from interfering with the recording. A human viewing a screen containing movie film images sees only the movie film images on the screen and does not see the infrared pattern being displayed simultaneously. Video cameras aimed to record a screen containing the movie film images, even video cameras having infrared filters, are unable to prevent the infrared pattern from interfering with recording the movie film images, and one embodiment may completely obscure the picture being recorded and render it unacceptable for even pirated distribution.
