Techniques are disclosed for facilitating digital signal processing in a client-server computing environment. In one embodiment, a local computing device is used to playback a digital media asset that is processed by a digital signal processing server. The local computing device can be configured to provide a user interface that receives a user selection of the segment of the media asset that is to be modified, and responsive to such selection, that instructs the digital signal processing server to segment the media asset accordingly. The 'segmented mix', which includes the user-selected portion of the media asset that is to be modified, is provided to the local computing device for local processing according to the user's instructions. The 'main mix', which comprises the other non-selected portions of the media asset, continues to be processed by the digital signal processing server and provided to the local computing device for playback.

The present disclosure includes a hybrid waveform system that displays a hybrid waveform to a user. In general, the hybrid waveform system provides a hybrid waveform to a user that uses converted readable text and waveforms to represent an audio segment. By providing a user with a hybrid waveform, the hybrid waveform system offers users with a number of benefits, such as providing an audio display that enables a user to quickly ascertain context information and audio information typically missing from audio transcriptions.

Waveform display control techniques of visual characteristics are described. In one or more examples, a method is described of increasing user efficiency in identifying particular sounds in a waveform display of sound data without listening to the sound data. Sound data received by a computing device is partitioned to form a plurality of sound data time intervals. A signature is computed for each of the plurality of sound data time intervals by the computing device based on features extracted from respective said sound data time intervals. The computed signatures are mapped by the computing device to one or more colors. Output of a waveform in a user interface is controlled by the computing device, in which the waveform represents the sound data and each of the sound data time intervals in the waveform have the mapped one or more colors.

A video preparation system is described. The system includes an event detector, a viewer identification, a selector, a video synthesis module, and a communications module. The event detector may be configured to detect an event associated with a main video content. The viewer identification module may be configured to determine an identification of a viewer associated with the event and to obtain information about the viewer. The selector may be configured to select additional video content that could be presented with the main video content. The video synthesis module may be configured to modify, in real time, the video content to produce a resulting content based on the information about the viewer. The communications module may be configured to provide the resulting content to a play-out server, the resulting content suitable for streaming via the Internet to a client computer system associated with the viewer.

At least one of a probability density for a video and a granularity mapping for the video based upon the probability density are generated at an analytics server. The probability density is calculated according to a predetermined set of points in the video and a pseudo-randomly generated set of points in the video. The probability density is non-degenerate. The at least one of the probability density and the granularity mapping are sent from the analytics server to a video content server so that the video content server sends the video and the at least one of the probability density, and the granularity mapping to each of a plurality of clients. Systems and methods are presented for adaptively streaming a time-ordered sequence of video frames from a video server, across a wide area network, to a remote client video device, to accommodate advanced video display modes. Based on indications received from the remote client, the video server obtains and sends to the remote client encodings of video frames adapted to facilitate smooth, timely transitions between display modes at the client, and optimal playback quality across all modes, subject to various operational constraints. Advanced playback modes include fast forward and reverse, slow forward and reverse, frame-by-frame stepping, and other modes that specify displaying video frames on the client at a rate different from the normal display rate, or that specify displaying video frames in a different order than the normal time-ordering of the sequence of video frames.
