Methods and apparatuses are described for intelligent smoothing of 3D alternative reality applications for secondary 2D viewing. A computing device receives a first data set corresponding to a first position of an alternative reality viewing device. The computing device generates a 3D virtual environment for display on the alternative reality viewing device using the first data set, and a 2D rendering of the virtual environment for display on a display device using the first data set. The computing device receives a second data set corresponding to a second position of the alternative reality viewing device after movement of the alternative reality viewing device. The computing device determines whether a difference between the first data set and the second data set is above a threshold. The computing device updates the 2D rendering of the virtual environment on the display device using the second data set, when the difference is above the threshold value.

Intelligent smoothing of 3D alternative reality applications for secondary 2D viewing

Computerized systems and methods are provided for visualizing data in a virtual environment. A three-dimensional virtual display framework is provided within a three-dimensional virtual space, the virtual display framework defined by a three-dimensional volumetric display zone bound by a plurality of surfaces. Data is visualized in 3D within the volumetric display zone of the virtual display framework. Select information is also displayed on at least one of the surfaces of the virtual display framework, where the select information is relevant to the data visualized. In addition, one or more display parameters can be altered in response to hand motions of the user captured to customize display of the virtual display framework. Altering the display parameters is adapted to adjust at least one of the three-dimensional visualization of the data within the volumetric display zone or the display of the select information on the at least one surface.

Systems and methods for graphing data in virtual reality environments

Methods and apparatuses are described for generating and manipulating 3D objects in a 3D environment of an alternative reality software application. A server retrieves a data set comprising data elements, each having one or more attributes. The server generates, for each data element, a virtual object, each virtual object positioned inside a virtual container and located in proximity to a center of the virtual container. The server attaches virtual magnets to an exterior surface of the virtual container, each magnet associated with a data filter value and an attraction value. The server determines, for each virtual object, a movement distance and a movement speed in relation to each virtual magnet based upon the data filter value and the attraction value for the virtual magnet. The server moves at least a portion of the virtual objects to a new location based upon the movement distance and movement speed.

Generating and manipulating three-dimensional (3D) objects in a 3D environment of an alternative reality software application

Methods and apparatuses are described for providing a thumb scroll user interface element in a computerized visual environment. A viewing device displays a graphical user interface within a three-dimensional space that includes surface planes each associated with a graphical thumb scroll element. A sensor device captures a location of the user's hand within the three-dimensional space and a gesture of the user's hand. A computing device detects that the location is within a defined zone around one of the graphical thumb scroll elements and activates the thumb scroll element associated with the defined zone. The computing device identifies the gesture, determines a scroll speed based upon a speed of the identified gesture, and determines a scroll direction based upon a direction of the identified gesture. The computing device changes characteristics of graphical content in the surface plane based upon at least one of: the scroll speed or the scroll direction.
