A method and electronic devices to provide a preferred device mode on a first electronic device and a second electronic device are described. In one example aspect, the present disclosure describes a method for determining a preferred device on a first electronic device and a second electronic device. The first and second electronic devices may have established a connection between them. The method includes: receiving a request related to an application on the first electronic device; sending the request to the second electronic device; initiating processing the request on the first electronic device; determining which of the first electronic device and the second electronic device is a preferred device to process the request; if the first electronic device is the preferred device, completing processing of the request on the first electronic device; and if the second electronic device is the preferred device, processing the request on the second electronic device.

A method of providing secondary content on a mobile device such that the secondary content is associated with a controller and is a member of one of a plurality of content categories. The method includes displaying primary content on an interface of the mobile device; receiving the secondary content at the mobile device; applying a visual property to the controller, the visual property identifying the content category that the secondary content is a member of. Further, after receiving the secondary content at the mobile device, the controller is displayed on the interface of the mobile device such that the controller does not visually interfere with the displayed primary content. A system and method for determining a location-based preferred media file includes a position module and a processor communicatively coupled to the position module. The processor configured to execute instructions to determine a current position of the mobile device based at least partially on data from the position module, to request data for a preferred media file associated with the determined current position of the mobile device, and to receive data representative of the preferred media file. The preferred media file can be a video file or an audio file that is selected based upon frequency that the media file has been played within a predetermined distance from the determined current position of the mobile device. The frequency can be based upon the total number of plays of the media file, the number of unique plays of the media file, or from trend data received from an external resource.
