The systems and methods described herein relate to use of a reverse diffusion system for removal of dissolved ions from a fluid, for example, salt ions. Specific embodiments include a system for desalinating salt water to produce potable water. The systems and methods can include pulsing low levels of electricity via electrodes in a scrolling pattern, so as to sweep the ions across a unit.

Reverse diffusion desalination

A system for processing a heterogeneous material includes a conduit for a pressurized fluid and a nozzle assembly in fluid communication with the conduit. The nozzle assembly includes a plurality of adjustable nozzles configured such that fluid streams passing through each nozzle intersect at an oblique angle after passing through the nozzles. At least one of the fluid streams comprises a heterogeneous material. A method of processing a heterogeneous material includes entraining heterogeneous particles into at least one fluid stream, passing the fluid stream through an adjustable nozzle, impacting the fluid stream with another fluid stream at an oblique angle to ablate the heterogeneous particles, and classifying the heterogeneous particles.

Devices, systems, and methods for processing heterogeneous materials

A method of processing a heterogeneous material includes entraining heterogeneous particles into a fluid stream. Each of the heterogeneous particles comprises a liquid portion and a solid portion. The fluid stream is passed through at least one adjustable nozzle, and is impacted to dissociate the liquid from the solid. A method of separating oil from solid particles includes mixing oil-coated solid particles with water to form a slurry, passing a first portion of the slurry through a first nozzle, and passing a second portion of the slurry through a second nozzle such that the second portion of the slurry intersects the first portion of the slurry to separate the oil from the particles.

Methods for processing heterogeneous materials

A non-coring needle that includes a sharpened and hardened tip having a tapered back region against which a length of tubing is pressed and welded, brazed or soldered. A Luer Lock hub may be attached to the other end of the tubing.

A rotary actuation mechanism for variable focus spectacles is disclosed. The spectacles include two variable focus lens units and a bridge therebetween. The actuation mechanism includes a rotary cam rotatably mounted on the bridge, a fingerwheel attached to the rotary cam to rotate it, a cam follower disposed in slidable contact with the peripheral surface of the rotary cam, and two elongated couplers pivotally mounted on the bridge. The peripheral surface of the rotary cam is spiral shaped to transfer the rotation of the rotary cam into a linear, or pivoting, motion of the cam follower. Each coupler has a proximate end in contact with or attached to the cam follower and a distal end coupled to a linkage anchor of a respective lens unit, to transfer the motion of the cam follower into simultaneous pivoting motions of the linkage anchors thereby adjusting the focal lengths of the lens units.

Structure and method for face form retention in eyeglasses and eyeglass frames for substantially preventing creep from altering the face form. The method comprises providing an eyeglass frame front having a space in the bridge region for receiving a metallic strip, providing the metallic strip having a width approximately matching the width of the space in the eyeglass frame front and a thickness that is less than its width, and fastening the metallic strip in the space in the bridge region so that the width of the metallic strip rigidifies the eyeglass frame front to retain its face form. Various specific methods and structures are disclosed.

Structure and method for face form retention in plastic eyeglasses and eyeglass frames

An improved underground box and lid for use in irrigation systems and other underground systems is provided. A single box can be inverted, combined and interlocked with a second box to form a single enclosed structure that is twice as high. This can be used for those installations where underground system components are buried in the ground at a greater depth than can be accommodated by a single box.

A technique for measuring mechanical force by exploiting the static electric polarization developed by piezoid elements in response to application of mechanical pressure, the magnitude of the polarization being representative of the magnitude of the mechanical force applied to one or more piezoid elements by disposing the piezoid elements adjacent to an electron transmission medium capable of sustaining an electric field internally, in which the polarization developed by the piezoid elements repel particles of like charge from the adjacent surface of the transmission medium and attract particles of opposite charge to the adjacent surface. By supplying a current of charged particles to one end of the transmission medium and separately collecting the charged particles toward different surfaces of the transmission medium, the strength of the polarization, which is representative of the strength of the applied mechanical forces, can be measured. The technique can be used with a single piezoid element to measure a single mechanical force, such as mass or gauge or absolute pressure, or a plurality of piezoid elements to measure the net of a plurality of forces, such as differential pressure. The piezoid elements are shaped and mounted to enhance the integrity, accuracy and sensitivity of the apparatus.

Apparatus and method for measuring force with static electric field

A mechanism for providing motive power consisting of a plurality of rotary-type pistons fitted into chambers uniformly situated about the axis of the engine in a housing for improving the effective displacement and compression of such engines. Motive forces generated by the pressure exerted on the piston are transferred from the cylinders through operative pins projecting axially from each of the pistons. The operative pins engage tracks in a guide plates. Due to the shape of the operative pins and tracks in the guide plate, the resultant forces generated between the operative pins and the guide plate cause the housing to rotate relative to the guide plate, generating torque. Thrust layers are provided which have involutes to introduce fuel and other fluids into the piston chambers and to remove exhaust fluids from the chambers. Cover plates are also provided to prevent the introduction and removal of fluids from the chambers from interfering with the transfer of power to the guide plates.
