A content streaming device includes display mode shift logic that selects a display mode among multiple display modes of the content streaming device. The content streaming device also includes region detection logic that determines a region of the content streaming device. The content streaming device further includes one or more processors that communicatively couples to an electronic display. The one or more processors instruct the display mode shift logic to select a first display mode having a first refresh rate based on the region of the content streaming device and supported display modes of the electronic display.

Dynamic display mode selection

Techniques are disclosed to select display settings for a display device. Device capabilities may be read from a display device and a determination made whether the device capabilities support other display formats than are read from the display, for example, a high dynamic range (HDR) format or a high resolution format. When the device capabilities do not include an format supported by a video source, video may be driven from the video source to the display device in the format and, if confirmation is received that the display device displays the driven video, settings may be stored for the display device identifying the format as a one supported by the display device. Additionally, interconnect may be tested by estimating noise levels generated by the interconnect to a network connection and/or by estimating network throughput both when video is driven over the interconnect and when it is not. Display formats may be selected for the device based on a maximum data rate of a network connection that can be maintained while the interconnect carries video.

The viewer may request that certain content be captured. Capture requests also allow the service to determine content to be recorded by the client system in the same manner that a viewer requests that certain content are recorded but are more powerful than what a viewer can request. Recording requests for a capture request can preempt viewer requests or be entered at the same or lower priority as a viewer request. Capture requests can adjust all aspects of a recording request and affect the capture request itself. Client system operational functionality are also manipulated by the service using capture requests.

Techniques for automatically configuring and controlling a conference room mode setting of a digital media device are described. A digital media device can be programmed to enter a conference room operating mode upon a trigger event. The trigger event can include a time-based trigger or an event-based trigger. In the conference room mode, the digital media device can provide for display an identifier of the digital media device and an identifier of a network for accessing the digital media device. The identifier of the digital media device and identifier of a network can be used by a mobile device to connect to the digital media device and to submit content to the digital media device. Once configured, the digital media device can enter the conference room mode automatically, without requiring a user to select the conference room mode using a remote control.

A system for remotely controlling client recording and storage behavior schedules the recording, storing, and deleting of multimedia content on a client system storage device. The invention accepts as input a prioritized list of program viewing preferences which is compared with a database of program guide objects that indicate when programs of interest are actually broadcast. A schedule of time versus available storage space is generated that is optimal for the viewer's explicit or derived preferred content. The viewer may request that certain content be captured, which results in the highest possible priority for those content. The invention provides objects called a capture requests that are sent by the service to client systems. Capture requests reflect local storage management decisions about how the client system storage is partitioned. Capture requests also allow the service to determine content to be recorded by the client system in the same manner that a viewer requests that certain content are recorded but are more powerful than what a viewer can request. Methods and apparatus for capturing images on screens which display multiple windows. Exemplary embodiments eliminate unnecessary reading and writing of information pertaining to display data that is not visible. A user designates an arbitrary region of a screen to be captured, which can cross windows that are displayed at different layers within the image. A snapshot of the selected region is obtained by retrieving data for each of the pixels in the region, converting them into standard values, and storing them in an off-screen pixel map. Before the data for the pixels is obtained, a listing is made of all windows that are encompassed by the designated region. For each window a record is made of the portion of the window that is visible within the designated region. If no portion is visible, the window is removed from the list. After all of the windows within the region have been examined in this manner, only the pixels pertaining to the recorded visible portion of each window need to be read and stored in the pixel map. With this approach, redundancy is eliminated, since only the visible pixel data is retrieved and written to the pixel map.

System and method for capturing images of screens which display multiple

A method for reducing colorflashing by performing residual color allocation and default colormap sharing in a computer system that employs a default colormap to display color. The residual color allocation technique copies color values from a private colormap into corresponding non-allocated (free) cells within the computer system default colormap. While copying into the free cells in the default colormap the free cells are temporarily set to have an allocated status. After copying, the copied cells are reset to a free status. In this way, other clients may allocate the default map's free cells to perform residual colormap allocation. Since the default colormap's copied cells are the same as corresponding cells in the private map they do not flash when switching color focus between the default colormap and the private colormap. The default colormap sharing technique is employed in the case in which a private colormap does not require a specific set of colors, and can adapt to a given set of colors. Default colormap sharing is performed by copying allocated cell color values from the default colormap to corresponding cell locations within the private colormap. The residual color allocation and default colormap sharing techniques may be implemented when a given client (which uses a private colormap) creates/defines the color values in its corresponding private map. This generally occurs when the client's corresponding application window is opened. The technique of the present invention may be subsequently implemented when clients redefine colors within their corresponding private colormaps.
