Compact disk storage unit

A storage and display device for floppy disks and the like including a molded base unit having a tray for supporting the disks on one edge thereof, a plurality of dividers for separating quantities of the disks within the tray, and hangers pivotally attached to each end of the base unit for suspending the storage container relative to a pair of parallel supports. The hangers are pivotable between a position in parallel side-by-side relationship with the corresponding end surface of the tray and a position extending upwardly relative to the end walls of the tray.

A storage container for floppy disks and the like includes a cover member pivotally attached to a base member. The base member includes a floor that has a plurality of guide slots which accept dividers so as to permit organizational classification and to facilitate identification and recovery. The base member includes upwardly extending front, rear and side walls. A finger grip is formed in both the front and rear walls. Along the outboard edge of each side wall is a downwardly extending skirt that runs from the front wall to a point near the rear wall. The cover member may be pivoted through an arc of about 90 degrees which provides easy access to the disk stored inside. The rear edge of each skirt provides a cover stop against which the bottom edge of the rear wall of said cover member rests when the cover is in the fully opened condition. This prevents the cover member from opening further. The stops are located so that the cover will remain open but will not provide a significant unbalanced force which would cause an undue backward tilt to said base member when the cover is in the open condition. The storage container may also be moved in the open condition without the cover member rotating backward which would tend to flip the container out of the operator's hand. A locking arrangement is optional, and when equipped, the lock is installed in the downwardly extending front wall of the cover member. A locking aperture is provided in the top surface of the finger grip formed in the front wall of said base member.

Storage container for floppy disks and the like

A storage container for floppy disks is comprised of an open top box-like bottom portion, a support arm and a storage pouch which includes an upper part and a lower part. The support arm is pivotally attached to the opposed side walls of said bottom portion at a point adjacent the back wall thereof. The storage pouch is hingedly attached to the support arm at a position near the center of the upper surface thereof, and is secured by guide projections in the guide slots formed along each said side wall. By this arrangement, the rotational movement about the pivotal connection will cause the stored pouch to rise and in so doing, move forward because of the guide slot engagement. At the forward end of the guide slot, is a downwardly extending dog leg that permits the storage pouch to drop down so as to rest on the floor of the base portion. The lower part of pouch is pivotally attached to the upper part and is held in this condition by a detent arrangement. When in the open condition, the lower part can be disengaged and rotated forward. This places the back wall in an inclined condition which facilitates selection and removal of a floppy disk.

A storage container and display device for floppy diskettes, and the like, has a base portion (10) forming a receptacle (12) of generally rectangular configuration and having a support portion (14) hingedly attached thereto and removeably interlocked with a first portion (24) of an upper part (22). A second portion (26) of the upper part (22) is hingedly attached to the first portion (24) thereof so as to cooperatively form a holder for floppy diskettes, and the like. When both portions (24, 26) of the upper part (22) are swung open relative to one another, the contents thereof can be placed on display. Conversely, when both portions (24, 26) of upper part (22) of the unit are in overlying relation and folded into the receptacle (12) formed by the base portion (10) a compact storage unit results. A guide arrangement is associated with both the base portion (10) and the upper part (22) for facilitating relative movement between the various parts and portions of the device.

Storage container and display device

A diskette storage container is formed of molded plastic parts which are pivotally connected together. A substantially rectangular base member has upwardly rising side walls, and cams having cam apertures adjacent the side walls. A cover member is pivotally connected to the base so that the rear edge of the cover passes into the base and rests at a slightly obtuse angle against the cams. A diskette support member is pivotally mounted to said cover and includes camming surfaces which ride on said cams as the cover is rotated toward its open position. The pivotal connection is disposed rearwardly of the centroid of the diskette support member. A notch in said camming surface is positioned to engage the cams when the cover is fully opened. This allows the diskette support member to drop forward a predetermined distance which improves accessibility to the diskettes. A locking arrangement includes a locking arm near the forward edge of the camming surfaces for engagement with the cam apertures when the container is closed. The locking arrangement includes a latch mechanism that engages with a slot in the diskette support member and a key rotated bolt is positioned so as to hold the latch in the locked position. In an alternate embodiment, the closure member, base member and diskette support members are formed to provide a double width container in which two parallel sets of diskettes may be stored in a side-by-side arrangement.

A diskette storage container is formed of three molded plastic parts which are pivotally connected together. A substantially rectangular base member has upwardly rising side walls, a display operative in the bottom and cams adjacent the side walls. A cover member is pivotally connected to the base so that the rear edge of the cover passes into the base and rests at a slightly obtuse angle against the cams. A diskette support member is pivotally mounted to said cover and includes camming surfaces which ride on said cams as the cover is rotated toward its open position. A notch in said camming surface is positioned to engage the cams when the cover is fully opened. This allows the diskette support member to drop forward a predetermined distance which improves accumibility to the diskette.
