A method of analyzing a polymer resin comprising: providing a polymer resin sample having two or more polymer components; subjecting the sample to aTREF analysis to yield aTREF elution trace by contacting the sample with aTREF solvent to form sample solution; introducing sample solution into aTREF column and allowing elution of polymer components at different elution rates along the column; eluting from the aTREF column an aTREF eluent comprising the polymer components eluting at different rates; and subjecting the aTREF eluent to IR detection to yield the aTREF elution trace; identifying the components of the sample to yield identified components by comparing the elution trace with an identification library that comprises a plurality of known polymer aTREF elution traces correlated with known polymer components characterized by identifying parameters (density, SCB, crystallization temperature, MI, HLMI, MWD); and quantifying each of the identified components to yield quantified polymer components via chemometric analysis.

Utilizing aTREF data with chemometric analysis for determining the types of polyethylene present in polymer blends and multilayer films

Multilayer cast films with an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin copolymer core layer, and inner and outer layers containing low density polyethylene homopolymers, and multilayer cast films with an ethylene polymer core layer, and inner and outer layers containing ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin copolymers, are described. These cast films have a reduced tendency to block, and are useful in various food packaging applications.

A method comprises subjecting ant oxygen scavenger to actinic radiation; and then optionally storing the oxygen scavenger in a container, the container configured such that the oxygen scavenger exhibits no substantial oxygen scavenging activity while inside the container. The dosed oxygen scavenger can later be removed from the container, if stored therein, subjected to a second dose of actinic radiation to trigger the oxygen scavenger, and used in packaging oxygen sensitive products. Disclosed herein are oxygen scavenging compositions and packaging articles that comprise (a) a metal catalyzed oxidizable compound and (b) at least one of a transition metal carboxylate, wherein the transition metal carboxylate comprises at least one carboxylate group and wherein each carboxylate group comprises between 20 and 30 carbon atoms, inclusive, such as cobalt behenate or cobalt arachidate.

Transition metal carboxylates as catalysts for oxygen scavenging

The present invention is directed to producing a resin which, when formed into a film, has excellent gas barrier and/or moisture barrier (low MVTR) properties. Further, the resin has a relatively high molecular weight distribution, preferably above 6, and has excellent processability/extrudability. The resin is produced using a cyclopentadienyl chromium compound, preferably a mono CpCr compound, on a support, preferably a silica support. A particularly preferred catalyst for use in the present invention comprises pentamethylcyclopentadienyidimethylchromiumpyridine. Preferably, the catalyst is used in a slurry polymerization process.

Process for making MVTR resin

A process is disclosed for producing polyethylene resin of broad molecular weight distribution, when formed into a film, high barrier to moisture (low MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate) for the film). The resin is formed by polymerizing ethylene, preferably in a gas phase process or in a slurry process, using a post-titanated catalyst, that is, a catalyst wherein after initial formation of a catalyst comprising Cr&mdash;Ti-inorganic refractory support, further titanium is added to the catalyst in a post-titanation step, preferably to increase the titanium content of the catalyst to a final level preferably between 7 and 9.5 wt. %.
