A tool for simultaneously machining multiple surfaces on a stationary workpiece can include a rotary tool body having multiple cutter assemblies spaced circumferentially around the tool body. Different ones of the cutter assemblies can include differently angled cutting elements for machining different frusto-conical surfaces in the workpiece. At least some of the cutting elements can have two separate cutting edges.

Tool for machining multiple surfaces on a stationary workpiece

A turn broaching machine for broaching a workpiece comprises a hollow arbor having a plurality of axially spaced apart, circumferentially extending cutting segments projecting radially outwardly from the side wall thereof. The cutting segments each have a radially outer peripheral edge provided with broaching elements. A closed loop system circulates a heated fluid through the arbor. The fluid is heated to an elevated temperature of about 100 F.-150 F. to maintain the arbor in a similarly heated condition during broaching. Maintaining the arbor at a relatively constant, elevated temperature during broaching stabilizes the broach by eliminating axial thermal expansion.

A cutting tool employing negative cutting inserts providing both high volume stock removal and a fine surface finish. The insert utilizes negative radial and positive axial rake angles and incorporates a lead angle of between about 30.degree. degrees to about 90.degree. degrees.

A face mill having one or more cartridges for adjustably supporting cutter inserts on the end face of the rotating tool body. Each cartridge has a convex arcuate surface seated against a concave arcuate seat surface formed on or in the milling tool body. A torsion bar is integrally extended from the cartridge parallel to the axis of the concave seat surface. Also, a manual adjustment screw is located perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cartridge for applying an adjustment force to the cartridge in opposition to the action of the torsion leaf spring. The torsion bar applies a pre-load force to the cartridge. The manual adjustment screw exerts an opposing force that rotates the cartridge to a desired position for proper orientation of the associated cutter insert.
