Novel bioabsorbable, nasal spreader graft implant devices are disclosed. The devices are useful in rhinoplasty and nasal reconstruction surgical procedures, as well as other surgical procedures. The devices have biodegradable core plates and biodegradable spreader plates or tissue ingrowth plates. The plates may have tissue ingrowth properties.

Bioabsorbable multilayer nasal valve spreader graft

Novel bioabsorbable, universal kits used to form nasal implants are disclosed. The implants are useful in rhinoplasty and nasal reconstruction surgical procedures. The kit devices have a universal configuration and can be converted by the surgeon in the field into one or more individual nasal implant devices having different configurations and applications. The kits may have outlines of nasal implants thereon.

Universal bioabsorbable nasal implant kit

A method for making an absorbable microtube comprising the steps of a) extruding an absorbable polymer melt through a die to produce a molten extrudate; b) passing the molten extrudate vertically through an air gap ranging from about 0.1 to 0.5 inch as measured-from-the tip of the die to the surface of a liquid quenching medium to produce a quenched extrudate; and c) drawing the quenched extrudate to produce a drawn tube having an outer diameter of about 4 to about 12 mil; and an absorbable microtube that is made according to this method.

A preformed, seamless, three-dimensional, anatomically contoured prosthetic device for reinforcing breast tissue and supporting a breast implant includes a flat back wall, a concave front wall and a curved transitional region between the flat back wall and the front wall defining a smoothly curved bottom periphery. A concave receiving space is defined by the back wall and the front wall for at least partially receiving and supporting the breast implant therein. The three-dimensional prosthetic device is free of wrinkles, creases, folds or seams, which may have otherwise caused potential tissue irritation, bacteria hosting, infection and palpability problems.

Naturally contoured, preformed, three dimensional mesh device for breast implant support

A composite having a plurality of filaments arranged in a fibrous web that is held together in a unitary structure by a domain matrix. The domain matrix comprises a plurality of matrix islands that individually connect, or bond, at least two filaments, to thereby hold the filaments in a unitary structure. Portions of the filament lengths within the unitary structure are free of matrix islands, causing the domain matrix to be discontinuous. The composite possesses a greater flexibility than coated structures. The composite may be formed into cross-plied structures. A method of making the composite also is disclosed.

Fiber spinning of two polymer compositions wherein one of the compositions contains carbon nanotubes produces structures such as fibers, ribbons, yarns and films of carbon nanotubes. The polymers are removed and stabilization of the carbon nanotube material is achieved by post-spinning processes. The advances disclosed herein enable the carbon nanotube composites to be used in actuators, supercapacitors, friction materials and in devices for electrical energy harvesting.

Composite material comprising oriented carbon nanotubes in a carbon matrix and process for preparing same

Novel fibers having improved liquid absorption capacity combined with the ability to provide a dry feeling even when nearly saturated. The fibers are expected to be useful in diverse applications such as diapers, incontinent briefs, feminine hygiene napkins, tampons, surgical sponges, wound dressings, towels, separation of oil from the surface of water, and the containment or collection of oil in industrial installations.

Absorbent fibers

Compositions and methods are directed to a sheath core fiber with a core and a sheath that comprises a fluoropolymer. Contemplated sheath materials include PVDF, ECTFE, and ETFE, and may have an apparent shear viscosity equal to or less than the apparent shear viscosity of the core material. Especially contemplated sheaths have a weight of 30% or less of the weight of the fiber. Preferred fibers are spun in a spin pack having a sheath material conduit with a ratio of open volume to sheath material mass flow of less than 0.75 for a fiber with a 30 wt % sheath, of less than 1.15 for a fiber with a 20 wt % sheath, and of less than 2.30 for a fiber with a 10 wt % sheath

High-strength chemically resistant thin sheath fibers and methods of manufacture

Novel filaments and yarns for carpets, upholstery and other applications, the spinneret and method for their production and carpets manufactured therefrom. The filaments of the invention are solid multi-lobal filaments of complex convex-concave surface contour possessing low luster, low moment of inertia, high color intensity upon dyeing and high covering power. Carpets manufactured therefrom possess low luster, soft hand, high covering power and high body suitable for premium residential application. The filaments of the invention are produced at high throughput and productivity by the method of the invention.

Soft hand, low luster, high body carpet filaments

A filter, for use in removing residual fuel vapors from within an engine's intake system, includes a filter element having a plurality of fibers, for placement in communication with an intake air flow passage. Each of the fibers has an internal cavity formed therein, and a longitudinally extending slot formed therein extending from the internal cavity to the outer fiber surface. The filter also includes a hydrocarbon-absorbing material disposed within the internal cavities of the fibers. The hydrocarbon-absorbing material may be a solid material such as, e.g., carbon, or may be a liquid such as a relatively non-volatile organic solvent. Alternatively, the material may be a combined solid and liquid. In one embodiment, each of the elongated fibers includes a central stem and a plurality of lobes extending outwardly from the central stem, with a longitudinally extending slot defined between adjacent lobes. Specific useful filter configurations are detailed.
