A document transport belt for use in an automatic document handler in an electrostatographic copying machine is provided, which is made from an ethylene propylene diene rubber. The document transport belt of the invention has a stable coefficient of friction, high resistance to ozone attack, superior whiteness stability, high resistance to abrasion, and outstanding mechanical stability so that it does not require the frequent tension adjustment after operating under machine conditions for a period of time.

A fuser member, fuser assembly and method of fusing or fixing thermoplastic resin powder images to a substrate in a fuser assembly of the type wherein a polymeric release agent having functional groups is applied to the surface of the fuser member is disclosed. The fuser member comprises a base member having at least two layers of elastomer thereon, at least the outer layer elastomer surface having a metal-containing filler therein. Exemplary of such a fuser member is an aluminum base member coated with a first layer of poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) copolymer optionally having a metal-containing filler, such as lead oxide, dispersed therein and at least a second layer of poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) copolymer having metal-containing filler, such as lead oxide, dispersed therein coated upon said first layer.

Butadiene copolymers having controlled electrical life and controlled resistivity are described. A method is disclosed for enhancing the electrical life of butadiene copolymers having solubilized conductivity control agents incorporated therein by varying specified quantities of terminally unsaturated hydrocarbon nitriles in copolymers of the butadiene and the specified nitriles by using mixtures of such copolymers having conductivity control agents therein. The method and polymers are useful for enhancing the electrical life and polymer stability in xerographic devices where control of conductivity and/or relaxation behavior is important, e.g., in bias transfer rolls.

Compositions and method for enhancing electrical life of copolymers

A pressure roll for use in a roll fuser for fixing toner images to copy sheets by the application of heat and pressure, is described. The roll is characterized by a rigid core covered with a relatively thick layer of organic rubber with a relatively thinner sleeve or layer of material acting as an air barrier to the organic rubber to prevent oxidative degradation. The organic rubbers are characterized by small compression deflection decreases even after exposure to high temperatures, under pressure for prolonged periods of time. Highly crosslinked organic rubbers cured with non-sulfur crosslinking agents are preferred organic rubbers.

A method is disclosed for extending the electrical life of copolymers of butadiene and terminally unsaturated hydrocarbon nitriles by incorporating salts having asymmetrical quaternary ammonium cations or salts having structural charge specific anions therein. The method and polymers are useful for extending the functional electrical life and electrical stability of materials used in xerographic devices where control of and minimizing of the variations in the resistivity under applied voltages vs. time is important, e.g., in bias transfer rolls.

An electrostatic reproduction machine has a photoconductive member and a transfer roller in contact therewith, the roller having a texturized surface formed so as to prevent or minimize the possibility of a sheet of paper wrapping itself around the roller as the sheet is passing between the photoconductive member and the roller during the transfer operation.

Rolls, belts and other biasable members having minimal sensitivity to relative humidity changes are described. Biasable members having at least one layer or coating of a hydrophobic elastomeric polyurethane change little in resistivity when changes in relative humidity occur. The utility of such biasable members is in the transfer of xerographic images from a photoconductor to a final support sheet where the member, for example, a bias transfer roll, electrically cooperates with a photoconductor to establish a directional force field therebetween.

Rolls, belts and other biasable members having controlled resistivity are described. The resistivity of the elastomeric resilient polyurethane coating on biasable members is controlled by ionic additives incorporated in the polyurethane. Biasable members having at least one layer or coating of a hydrophilic elastomeric polyurethane containing resistivity altering compounds or agents have substantially reduced resistivity changes with changes in relative humidity.
