An energy transfer device may include a fuser roll, a pressure roll, the pressure roller and the fuser roll being part of a marking system, and a heat pipe, the heat pipe being in contact with at least one of the fuser roll and the pressure roll. A method of using an energy transfer device that includes a fuser roll, a pressure roll, the pressure roll and the fuser roll being part of a marking system, and a heat pipe may include contacting the heat pipe with at least one of the fuser roll and the pressure roll, absorbing heat from a relatively hot region of the at least one of the fuser roll and the pressure roll using a working fluid, and dissipating the absorbed heat by evaporating the working fluid.

Low mass fuser apparatus with substantially uniform axial temperature distribution

A fusing assembly includes (a) a first member having a first edge, a second edge and an end-to-end axis; (b) a second member having a fusing surface forming a fusing nip with the first member, and the fusing nip being located between the first edge and the second edge of each of the first member and the second member; (c) a heating member extending along the end-to-end axis for heating at least one of the first member and the second member to an image marking material fusing temperature; and (d) a temperature equalizing device for equalizing a temperature of the at least one of the first member and the second member, the temperature equalizing device including plural heat conductors, each heat conductor of the plural heat conductors including a first end and a second end, a body portion between the first end and the second end, the body portion being spaced from and out of contact with the fusing surface of the second member with only the first end and the second end discretely contacting the fusing surface, with the first end and the second end being arranged in an overlapping manner, for contacting the at least one of the first member and the second member at a first contact point and at a second contact point respectively for conducting heat from one of the first contact point and the second contact point to the other.

Fusing assembly having a temperature equalizing device

A thin-walled fuser roll core cylinder assembly permitting fast warm-up times and improved energy efficiency wherein cracking of the thin walls of the core cylinder due to cyclic compression is prevented by redirecting axial stress at the terminus of an axial keyway to a radial direction. The keyway is for coupling the core cylinder to a drive gear. Use of such a thin-walled fuser roll in an imaging system and a process of fusing toner onto a copy substrate using the thin-walled fuser core.

The present invention provides a knife with a replaceable blade which is spring-biased in the retracted position. The knife is designed such that the blade can only be extended by exerting a downward force and by turning the handle with respect to an inner housing. The handle has a tab affixed to the inside wall of the handle. The inner housing has an angled slot in its wall adapted to receive the tab. When the blade is fully retracted, the tab rests on the shoulder at the top of the inner housing. A straight downward pressure on the handle causes the tab to engage the shoulder and will not allow the blade to extend. When the handle is rotated, the tab enters the slot and the blade is forced downward. As this occurs, the blade extends through a slot at the bottom of a blade cover. When the blade is removed from the object to be cut, the spring forces the handle to move with respect to the inner housing and causes the blade to retract within the blade cover. The handle has a longitudinal axis which is between 1 degree and 35 degrees from the line perpendicular to the bottom surface of the blade cover. In this position, the operator holds the handle with his thumb and forefinger at the end of the handle opposite the blade.

Automatically retractable safety utility knife

An apparatus which mixes developer material in the chamber of a developer housing. A pair of augers transport the developer material in a recirculating path from one region of the chamber to another region. A generally planar member is interposed between the augers to separate the augers from one another. The planar member has an aperture in at least one marginal region configured to allow developer material to gently move between the first auger and the second auger and being adapted to reduce back up of the developer material and flow unevenness.

Developer material mixing apparatus

A document handler 20 for presenting documents to the platen 23 of a copier 10 for copying with a vacuum belt platen transport system 32 having document transporting belts 35 movable under a substantially planar vacuum plenum backing and imaging background surface 33a overlying the platen, and a vacuum system 33 for applying a partial vacuum to a document sheet being transported by the movable belts over the platen; with a clamping and unclamping system for moving the vacuum plenum backing and imaging background surface 33a against the platen 23 to flatten the belts 35 and a document thereon against the platen for copying. During unclamping the surface 33a slightly fits away from the platen, while supplying the partial vacuum to lift a document away from the platen retained on the belts, by first lifting a first side of the surface 33a up away from the platen substantially before the opposite side, and then subsequently lifting the opposite side, to generate a controlled air flow for assisting in retaining the documents to the belts, and moving the belts when the surface is lifted away from the platen. During clamping the first side of the surface 33a moves towards the platen beginning slightly before the opposite side to generate a controlled air flow expulsion of air.

Document handler vacuum belt platen transport clamping system

An apparatus in which the concentration of toner particles used to form a highlight color document is controlled. The percentage of the document arranged to have highlight color portions thereon is determined and a first signal corresponding thereto generated. A second signal corresponding to the rate of toner particle usage per document is transmitted. A third signal corresponding to the total number of documents being reproduced is produced. The first, second and third signals are multiplied to generate a control signal corresponding to the required dispense rate for the toner particles forming the highlight color portions of the document.
