A hub is disclosed for supporting and retaining at least one surface conditioning article relative to and spaced apart from a rotary shaft. The hub may be a hub of a brush assembly. The hub includes an arbor tube and a pair of plates. Shoulders are provided on the arbor tube and the plates are coupled to the arbor tube at a pre-determined distance set by shoulders. The surface conditioning article is provided between the plates. Since the distance between the plates is set by the shoulders, the density of the surface conditioning article between the face plates also is predetermined. The plates may include a key-shaped region with a circular portion and a keyseat. An adapter also may be provided. The adapter is configured and dimensioned to be engaged in the key-shaped region, permitting a shaft having a smaller diameter to be coupled to the hub.

Power brush

A brush seal includes a retainer and a multiplicity of single bristles each bristle having a fixed end and a free sealing end, the fixed ends being individually attached in a continuous arrangement at the same angle to the retainer, the bristles having a uniform pack density throughout the extent of the bristles from the fixed to the sealing end.

Brush seal

A system for accepting conventional wire in bulk form, cutting the wire into predetermined lengths and preparing the ends of the wire for use in conventional wire harnesses is disclosed. More specifically, the system accepts as input data, in digital form, which fully describes each wire to be formed. Individual wires having the required length are cut from wire provided in bulk form. As each section of wire is measured and cut, it is stored in individual containers and the ends of each section is secured by a clamp. A transport system sequentially transports the stored wires to workstations where conventional wire preparation tasks such as stripping, marking and attachment of terminals are performed. After all wire preparation functions have been performed, the individual wires are removed from their containers and utilized in forming wire harnesses.

Wire preparation system

An automated flexible manufacturing system for fabricating electrical cable harness assemblies. The system includes a wire preparation system in which the wires are cut to length, provided with the desired electrical terminations and marked for identification under the control of computing means to which wire harness data is fed. The prepared wires are transported to an automated cable harness assembly system which is also controlled from computing means to which the wire harness data is fed.

Flexible automated manufacturing system

Contact insertion and wire lay apparatus for manufacture of wire harnesses which provides for insertion of a contact affixed to the trailing end of a wire segment after wire lay. The invention provides for gripping a wire segment while the segment is caused to lay in a desired configuration. A pair of sets of tip jaws enable forward and trailing end contacts of the wire segment to be inserted into selected contact holding devices. In addition, the apparatus is arranged to facilitate lateral receipt and rejection of the wire segments.

Contact insertion and wire lay robotic end effector apparatus

An optical system providing multiple wavelength dependent optical paths and using graded index of refraction optical elements is disclosed. The dimensions of the graded index of refraction optical elements are selected such that each optical path is one focusing length. Dichroic elements are utilized to differentiate between the optical paths on a wavelength basis.

Optical device having multiple wavelength dependent optical paths

A duplex module for simultaneous bidirectional transmit-receive communication with the end of an optical fiber or fiber bundle. The end face of an optical fiber in optical coupling registry with one end of a common bidirectional transmit-receive optical path is tilted to divert any transmit signal back-reflected from such end out of such path. The other end of the transmit-receive path is affiliated with signal receiver and transmitter means via a beam splitter.

Fiber optics duplex module

A rotary fiber optic waveguide coupling. Bared ends of two fiber optic waveguide cable sections are held in mutually-aligned end-to-end adjacent positions in opposite extension along a common rotary axis by a pair of ferrules having central through-openings in which such ends coextend and are bonded in close fit. The ferrules are held in precise axial position by abutment at their inner ends with annular shoulder in a pair of alignment caps mounted in two members movable relatively about such rotary axis. Retaining sleeves screwed into the relatively turnable members cooperate with washer members on the ferrules to obtain such abutment, and the ferrules project through openings in the alignment caps to obtain precise radial positioning. A friction-free rotary bearing interconnects the two relatively turnable members. The bearing is preloaded along the axis of rotation to give precise axial and radial positions of the one turnable member relative to the other.
