The invention relates to a foamable composition comprising at least two parts. The first part comprises a polyol, a thixotropic gelling agent, a blowing agent, a urethane reaction catalyst and a isocyanurate reaction catalyst. The second part comprises at least one isocyanate. A foam mass can be prepared by combining the first part polyol component with the second part isocyanate component. The composition is foamable under water and exhibits, upon foaming under water, substantially the same wet foam density and dry foam density. The invention also relates to a method of repairing or reinforcing structural members having defects such as spike holes left after spike removal from railroad ties during road bed maintenance or repair by means of the foamable composition.

Foamable composition exhibiting instant thixotropic gelling

This invention relates to a foamable composition comprising at least two parts. More specifically, the first part comprises at least one polyol, at least one gelling agent, and at least one blowing agent wherein the first part comprises an effective amount of hydrophobic ingredients and a second part comprising at least one isocyanate. A foam mass can be prepared by a method of combining a polyol component with an isocyanate component substantially free of urethane prepolymer and applying the mixture to a void or substrate. The invention also relates to methods of using certain polyurethane compositions in the repair of surface defects or for the reinforcement of structural members such as spike holes left after spike removal from railroad ties during road bed maintenance or repair. This invention further relates to a method of foaming certain polyurethane compositions in the presence of water.

Foaming urethane composition and methods of using such compositions

Described is a filter and a method for preparing the filter that includes a porous filter media that is bonded to an end cap using a two-part, isocyanate-based adhesive. The adhesive is free of inorganic pigments and fillers and is the reaction product of at least one polymeric polyol component and at least one polyisocyanate component. The polyol component includes a high MW triol having sufficiently different intrinsic reaction rates to generate phase separation during curing. The components react and cure to form a product having an L* white value greater than about 60.

Filter and method of preparing a bonded filter that includes a white-opalescent adhesive

The present invention discloses two-part isocyanate-based adhesive compositions, free of inorganic pigments and fillers, which cure to form polyurethane-based adhesives having an opaque-white appearance greater than about L* 80 and a shore A hardness greater than about 50. Such materials are particularly useful for the preparation of bonded filter. The invention further describes a method for the preparation of bonded filters using these compositions and the bonded filters thereof. Additionally, these compositions can also be used as two part general household adhesives and/or caulkings wherein the two liquid parts are metered together just prior to application using a dispensing apparatus including, but not limited to, glue guns having two containers (e.g., tubes); one tube, for example, containing polyol and diol components and the second containing polyisocyanate.

A mechanically peelable masking coating composition particularly useful for metals, and the method of preparing same for use is provided. The composition is heat curable in one or two heatings to produce a firmly adhering yet peelable coating. In its preferred form the composition comprises a mixture of a dispersion grade vinyl, a plasticizer, an adhesion promoter such as an epoxy, and optionally a thixotrope where greater resistance to sag and flow are desired. No fugitive solvents are required.

Mechanically peelable masking coating composition

The disclosed one-part curable polyurethane prepolymer compositions comprise a continuous phase and, distributed uniformly through this phase, a discontinuous phase containing a polyol curing agent of the pentaerythritol type. At moderately elevated temperatures, the polyol phase begins to enter into a curing reaction which has a single exotherm peak. The prepolymers are made from aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates and polymeric polyols. The one-part curable system is stable for long periods at room temperature. The curable polyurethane systems can be used in adhesives, coatings, sealants, and similar applications.

One-part, curable polyurethane

A one-package heat curable polyurethane composition, comprising an isocyanate terminated prepolymer liquid phase and a separate solid polyhydroxy compound phase insoluble in the prepolymer phase, and suitable for use as an adhesive. The liquid prepolymer phase comprises the reaction product of an aromatic polyisocyanate and a polyhydroxy compound. The separate insoluble solid polyhydroxy compound phase is dispersed or suspended throughout the liquid prepolymer phase and remains separate until heat cured. The ratio of OH groups in the solid polyhydroxy compound phase to NCO groups in the isocyanate terminated prepolymer liquid phase is less than 2:1. The one-package polyurethane adhesive composition can also be useful as an in-mold coating and an injection molding compound.
