A system for dynamically implementing exceptions in an onboard network firewall has a client application interface receptive to a data link request from a client device. An onboard connectivity manager includes a firewall interface connected to the onboard network firewall to request the exceptions in response to a connection authorization, and a client presence manager receptive to the data link request relayed by the client application interface from the client device. A presence state for the client devices is activated and maintained following the data link request. A remote connectivity manager is connected to a remote application service and is in communication with the onboard connectivity manager. The remote connectivity manager generates a connection authorization based upon an evaluation of the presence state for the client device against the conditions set by the remote application service.

System for dynamically implementing firewall exceptions

A system for regulating dynamic implementation of exceptions in an onboard network firewall includes a client application interface receptive to a data link request from a client device. An onboard connectivity manager includes a firewall interface connected to the onboard network firewall to request the exceptions in response to a connection authorization, a client presence manager receptive to the data link request relayed by the client application interface from the client device, and a network load manager in communication with the firewall interface and the client presence manager. A remote connectivity manager is connected to a remote application service and is in communication with the onboard connectivity manager. The network load manager generates the connection authorization to the firewall interface in response to the connection authorization request and an evaluation of one or more access grant conditions.

System for demand-based regulation of dynamically implemented firewall exceptions

A system for exchanging messages between crews stationed on a vehicle and staff or 3parties stationed within at least one or more travel points. A vehicle mail server has a shared e-mail account that is addressable with a unique vehicle attribute and accessible by the vehicle crew. The shared e-mail account is also addressable with a trip identifier alias. A central mail server also has a shared e-mail account that is associated with one of the travel points, and accessible by crew deployed thereto. The shared e-mail account is also addressable with one or more trip identification and status aliases. An association between the trip identifier alias and the vehicle attribute, as well as between the trip identification and status alias and the travel point is dynamically defined on the central mail server.

Electronic mail-based vehicle crew messaging

A portable media device for use in cooperation with passenger entertainment systems installed in vehicles, such as automobiles and aircraft, and methods for manufacturing and using same. The portable media device is configured to communicate with one or more content sources, which provide viewing content and which may be proximate to, and/or remote from, the portable media device. Preferably being configured to wirelessly communicate with the content sources, the portable media device can select content from any available content source and can download and present the selected content in any conventional manner. The selected content can be streamed to the portable media device for contemporaneous presentation and/or stored by the portable media device for viewing at any time, including after disembarking the vehicle once travel is completed. As desired, the portable media device likewise can be configured to transmit appropriate upload content to the content sources.
