A radiation shield is adapted to be disposed transversely across a subject supported on the surface of a procedure table to protect medical professionals working in front of the radiation shield from radiation being applied to the subject behind the radiation shield. The radiation shield includes a movable barrier positional to extend transversely across a subject supported on the surface of a procedure table. The barrier has a generally vertically-oriented lower section; a generally forwardly sloping intermediate section; and a generally vertically-oriented upper section, forwardly offset from the plane of the lower section. A side section extends outwardly and rearwardly from one side of the lower, intermediate, and upper sections of the barrier. There is a recess in the lower edge of the lower section for accommodating a portion of the body of the subject on the surface of the procedure table, with portions of the lower section on each side of the recess projecting downwardly below the surface of the procedure table. A plurality of flexible radiopaque flaps depending from the perimeter of the recess block radiation from penetrating the gap between the subject and the perimeter of the recess.

Radiation shield

Systems and methods for shielding medical personnel from radiation are provided. A radiation-shielding barrier is positioned between the medical personnel and the radiation source. The radiation-shielding barrier includes an opening such that a portion of the table extends through the opening in the barrier. Medical personnel are protected from secondary radiation transmitted through the patient via a special layering technique of a first, flexible sterile drape, a flexible radiation-resistive drape, and a second flexible sterile drape. The system includes an upper shield and a lower shield of independent movement and a linking mechanism between the two, while maintaining the radiation seal. The system also includes a mechanism for maintaining the radiation barrier between the upper shield and the patient aperture hoop, preventing a radiation gap from forming between the flexible portions of the system (e.g. flexible drapes, curtains, etc.) and the non-flexible portions of the system (e.g. upper shield, lower shield, radiopaque transparent window, etc.).

Method and apparatus for shielding medical personnel from radiation

A radiation protection shield for protecting medical personnel from radiation being applied to a patient positioned on a table. The shield includes a frame and a primary screen including a radiation-resistant material connected to said frame.

Lower shield for radiation protection system

A radiation protection system for protecting medical personnel from radiation being applied from a radiation source to a patient positioned on a table. The system includes a shield for positioning above the table having an inner frame sized and shaped for receiving the patient when the patient is positioned on the table, and a plurality of rods extending outward from the inner frame. The shield also has an outer frame surrounding the inner frame and connected to the plurality of rods, and a radiopaque flexible panel attached to the rods.

Radiation protection system

A method of using a radiation protection system including a table having a top surface for supporting a patient, a radiation-shielding screen attached to the table for covering a portion of the patient and a portion of the top surface of the table, and controls for controlling the system. The radiation-shielding screen includes at least one port. The method includes extending the radiation-shielding screen over a portion of the patient the table and accessing the controls through the port. The method further includes controlling the system using the controls.

Radiation protection system and method for using the same

A method of performing a medical procedure includes providing a radiation-shielding cubicle having an interior defining a medical personnel region and including a first wall having an opening therein, locating the cubicle with respect to an x-ray table so a portion of the x-ray table extends through the opening into the interior of the cubicle, and separating medical personnel from an x-ray emitter disposed outside of the cubicle using the first wall to shield the medical personnel from radiation emitted by the x-ray emitter.

A radiation barrier for shielding a person from radiation emitted from a radiation source. The barrier includes a radiopaque wall extending between opposite lateral edges, wherein the wall is positionable between the radiation source and the person to prevent radiation from traveling directly between the radiation source and the person, and a radiopaque deflector extending from the wall and obliquely angled relative to the wall.

Radiation barrier

A radiation protection system comprising a radiation resistant cubicle, radiation-shielding screen disposed between a patient and medical professionals within the cubicle, a radiation-shielding flexible interface and an integrated procedural environment which may include a control module, monitor displays, conduit for physiological monitoring or equipment leads, staging platforms, intravenous equipment and an improved radiation-resistant surgical drape.

A radiation protection system around a patient on an x-ray table includes a radiation protection wall with an opening around the x-ray table, a radiation screen over the patient, and a flexible interface joining the cubicle and the x-ray table. The wall shields medical personnel in an operating region from most radiation output by an x-ray emitter. The radiation screen is attached to the x-ray table such that it can be retracted to the foot of the x-ray table and extended over the patient such that it is interposed between the patient and the medical personnel. The interface has flexible joints attached to the wall and a flexible radiation-resistant skirt that joins the wall to the screen and covers the opening in the wall. An access port may be formed in the screen, and a shielding cloak can cover the access port to surround medical instruments that are threaded through the port and inserted into the patient.

A platform which is mounted over the fluoroscopic table in a catheterization procedure. The platform contains compartments for diagnostic or therapeutic catheterization procedure dependent devices, supplies, wastes, or fluids. The platform is mounted on a vertical support structure and utilizes removable inserts that fit within the compartments.

Catheterization procedure platform system and method

A system and method for injecting fluids during angiographic procedures. A finger activated control pad is used to regulate the injection of fluids by a single operator who simultaneously manipulates the primary catheterization equipment.
