A battery control system for controlling the connection of a plurality of batteries to a load is provided. The system comprises a plurality of switches and a plurality of controllers. Each switch is operable to connect or disconnect one of the batteries from the load. Each controller is operatively coupled to one of the switches. Each controller is operative to cause one of the switches to disconnect one of the batteries from the load. Each controller has an input and an output for communicating with another controller wherein the controllers communicate with each other to limit the number of batteries that can be disconnected from the loads

Battery disconnect system

A power distribution system, having distributed intelligence, includes a controller in communication with a plurality of rectifiers/power conversion units (PCUs). The controller and rectifiers/PCUs communicate with each other to generate system level current limit via a single control point, where system level current limit is accomplished by controlling the individual current limits of the rectifiers/PCUs. The system level current limit operating in combination with ambient temperature sensors, battery temperature sensors, load current sensors, and battery re-charge current sensors to control the operation of the system. The above sensors are also used in combination with a system level voltage control.

System level current limiting

In a system including a power supply, such as a rectifier, which supplies power to a load and in which a back-up battery is arranged between the power supply and load, a current controller is configured to control the recharging current supplied to the back-up battery. The current controller includes a variable resistance which is altered dependent upon whether more or less current is to be used for recharging of the back-up battery. The use of the current controller ensures that sufficient current is available for the load during the recharging process, even in a situation where the back-up battery requires a high level of recharging.

An apparatus including a circuit which causes the float voltage of one or more battery chargers to change so as to compensate for changes in the ambient temperature of the batteries connected to the chargers. The circuit does not regulate the charge voltage to the battery but rather provides a battery temperature dependent variable voltage drop in the sense load of the charger(s). The circuit includes a thermistor which is used to sense the temperature of the battery. The temperature dependent resistance of the thermistor is used in a resistive divider for a reference voltage. Selection of the values for the divider components allows the battery temperature dependent variable reference voltage to be a linear approximation of the temperature compensation curve of the battery.
