A boiler tube clamp assembly and a method of forming the clamp assembly. The clamp assembly includes two identical elongated clamp halves which coact in their assembled relation to define a series of axially spaced openings to pass respective tubes and further define first and second passages extending axially along the respective side edges of the assembled clamp halves. The assembly further includes first and second locking rods respectively slidably received in the first and second passages and acting to maintain the clamp halves in their assembled relation. Each clamp half includes an axially spaced series of first slots opening in one side edge of the clamp half with a series of first land portions positioned respectively between the slots and further includes a series of second axially spaced slots opening the other side edge of the clamp half with a series of second land portions positioned respectively therebetween. The clamp halves are positioned in superimposed relation with the first land portions of one clamp half received in the second slots in the other clamp half, the first land portions of the other clamp half received in the second slots of the one clamp half, the first slots in the clamp halves coacting to define a series of axially spaced openings sized to pass the tubes, and the internested land portions coacting to define the first and second passages along longitudinal side edges of the clamp assembly for slidable receipt of the first and second rods.

Boiler tube clamp assembly

A safety plate assembly for use with a conventional electric outlet of the type adapted to be fitted in a panel opening and including an outlet box and an outlet mounted in the box and including a receptacle defining a pair of sockets receiving the prongs of an electric plug. The assembly includes an annular mounting plate of open frame configuration positioned against the panel in surrounding relation to the opening and a cover plate positioned over the mounting plate and lockingly secured thereto by coacting locking finger and tab on the plates. A slide is mounted on the cover plate for movement between a safety position in which slide apertures overlie solid portions of the cover plate and an operative position in which the slide apertures are aligned with open areas of the cover plate and with the sockets of the receptacle so as to allow the prongs of the electric plug to be passed through the slide apertures and through the open areas of the cover plate for insertion in the receptacle sockets. The slide includes a shutter portion overlying the front face of the cover plate, a guide portion coacting with the rear face of the cover plate, and a juncture portion passing through an opening in the cover plate. The guide portion of the slide also coacts with the front face of the mounting plate to further facilitate the sliding movement of the slide.

Safety plate assembly

A safety plate assembly for use with a conventional electric outlet of the type adapted to be fitted in a panel opening and including an outlet box and an outlet mounted in the box and including a receptacle defining a pair of sockets receiving the prongs of an electric plug. The assembly includes an annular mounting plate of open frame configuration positioned against the panel in surrounding relation to the opening and a cover plate positioned over the mounting plate and lockingly secured thereto by resilient tabs on the mounting plate snappingly coacting with protrusions on the cover plate. A slide is mounted on the cover plate for movement between a safety position in which slide apertures overlie solid portions of the cover plate and an operative position in which the slide apertures are aligned with open areas of the cover plate and with the sockets of the receptacle so as to allow the prongs of the electric plug to be passed through the slide apertures and through the open areas of the cover plate for insertion in the receptacle sockets. The slide includes a shutter portion overlying the front face of the cover plate, a guide portion coacting with the rear face of the cover plate, and a juncture portion passing through an opening in the cover plate. The guide portion of the slide also coacts with the front face of the mounting plate to further facilitate the sliding movement of the slide.

A seal assembly for use in precluding leakage of hot combustion products along the shaft of a rotating heat exchanger wheel utilized in a power plant. The seal assembly includes a housing positioned in surrounding relation to the shaft and defining an annular chamber around the shaft having an inboard end and an outboard end; a positive annular fluid seal with the shaft proximate the outboard end of the chamber; and a leakage annular fluid seal with the shaft proximate the inboard end of the chamber. The positive annular fluid seal comprises a packing ring surrounding the shaft and an annular bladder positioned in surrounding relation to the packing ring and constrained against radial enlargement so that the bladder expands radially inwardly in response to receipt of pressurized fluid to urge the packing ring into sealing engagement with the shaft. Pressurized air is delivered to the chamber for leakage past the inboard leakage seal by delivering primary incoming pressurized air for the boiler to the chamber so that the pressurized air may flow out of the chamber past the leakage seal to preclude the entry of hot dirty combustion products into the chamber along the shaft and thereby preclude the entry of the combustion products into the general environment of the plant.

Seal assembly for rotating shaft

A protective bumper which can be removably mounted on the corners and edges of furniture and the like. The bumper comprises a resilient bumper portion having an interior surface which is configured to provide an air space between the bumper and the corner which it protects to act as a shock absorber, reducing the risk of injury to a person colliding therewith and damage to the table if you hit it with, for example, the vacuum cleaner. The bumper portion is provided with first, second and third mounting flaps which mold and adhere to the surface of a table. Two end flaps formed on the third mounting flap fold to adhere to the first and second mounting flaps, thereby reinforcing their attachment to the furniture surface.

A latch mechanism for a hinged cover such as a toilet cover comprising a base which is mounted on the bowl of the toilet, a latch bar which is pivotally mounted on the base and movable between a horizontal position which interferringly overlies as the toilet cover and a raised position which permits raising of the cover, and locking means which must be released to allow the latch bar to be moved to its raised or entry-authorized position. In one embodiment of the invention, the base is mounted on the ceramic structure of the toilet between the cover and the wafer closet, and the locking means comprises an element which depends pivotally from the latch bar and has dog-leg portions with feet which swing under a portion of the base to prevent the latch bar from being raised. In another embodiment, the base element comprises a U-shaped assembly which fits over the rim of the bowl, and the locking means comprise a pair of independently actuable lock members which are pivoted at one end to the base assembly and engage at their free hook end with recesses in the latch bar to preclude unauthorized raising of the latch bar. In both embodiments, when the latch bar is lowered, it automatically relocks under the influence of gravity.

A microscope is provided which is simply, accurately and inexpensively constructed from substantially all extruded parts. The modular construction of the microscope greatly reduces the costs of the instrument without sacrificing accuracy. The modularity further provides for a microscope which is readily adaptable to serve several distinct and separate functions.

Auxiliary adjusting mechanism for optical instruments

The mechanism for moving the lens assemblies mounted to support rods in a variation power microscope includes a crank shaft having a pair of opposed arms. The lens assemblies are connected to the crank arms by linkages. The lens assemblies are biased to the support rods by resilient member. At least one of the crank arms may incorporate a motion correcting surface which cooperates with a cam follower fixed to the associated linkage to vary the length of the linkage. The lens assemblies may further include arms for stabilizing guiding them along the support rods. Still further, the mechanism may include a device for controlling the rotation in either direction of the crank shaft. Additionally, the lens assemblies may be adjustably fixed to the linkages.

An adjusting mechanism for an optical instrument such as a microscope has a plurality of pulleys which are coupled together by a flexible, non-elastic cable. One of the pulleys is fixably rotated to a support member while the other pulleys are rotatably fixed to a movable member. The cable is further coupled to an adjusting shaft. Both ends of the cable are fixed to the support member. Rotation of the adjusting shaft takes up the cable on one side of the pulleys and pays out an exact and equal amount of cable on the opposite side of the pulleys. The pulleys fixed to the movable member are, consequently, moved a proportional amount. The movable member is displaced an exactly equal amount. The adjusting mechanism includes a counter balancing member which is adjustable to counteract the forces exerted upon the movable member.

Cable drive focusing mechanism for optical instruments

An actuating mechanism is rotatably and pivotably mounted to a rotatable adjusting mechanism of an instrument. The rotatable mechanism includes a bearing surface and a friction surface. The actuating mechanism includes a pivot and friction means. By pivoting the actuating mechanism about the pivot against the bearing surface, the friction means engages the friction surface. The actuating mechanism and adjusting mechanism are thereby locked together and can be rotated in unison. The rotatable mechanism may include a second bearing surface and a second friction surface and the actuating mechanism may include a second pivot and a second friction means. The second bearing surface and the second pivot are adjacent each other, as are the second friction surface and the second friction means. Pivoting the actuating mechanism in a second direction will engage the second pivot to the second bearing surface and the second friction means to the second friction surface. The second friction means and the second friction surface may thereby be rotated in unison.

Actuating device for rotating shafts

A monoaxial adjusting system is provided for accomplishing both coarse and fine focusing adjustments between the nosepiece and stage of a microscope. The coarse adjustment is made by rotation of either of two coarse adjusting knobs which in turn directly rotates a coarse adjusting shaft and cam. Suitable linkage is connected to the cam to affect linear movement between the nosepiece and stage. Fine adjustment is made through rotation of either of two fine adjusting knobs which actuate the coarse shaft and cam through a planetary gear reduction system and follower. A further adjusting mechanism is lever operated so that the operator may easily provide fine adjustment while manipulating the North-South stage and East-West slide control knobs. The entire adjusting system is spring and gravity loaded to eliminate backlash.
