A helmet comprises a protective shell, an energy absorbing layer defining an inner surface of the helmet and a shear component. The shear component extends over one or more areas of the inner surface of the helmet and has an outer surface removably coupled to the inner surface of the helmet. The shear component has a distal inner surface configured to contact a wearer's head, or to support and retain a separate comfort pad configured to contact the wearer's head. In response to an oblique impact to the helmet, the shear component undergoes internal shear to allow displacement between the helmet and the wearer's head.

A helmet comprises an outer shell, an outer liner positioned inside of the outer shell, an inner liner positioned inside of the outer liner, at least one displacement device positioned between the inner liner and the outer liner, and at least one helmet coupler that couples at least the outer liner and the inner liner together. The coupler comprises a first head positioned in a first recess in the outer liner, and a second head positioned in a second recess in the inner liner. A coupler post extends through the outer liner and the inner liner to interconnect the first head and the second head. The displacement device produces a damped shear action in response to relative movement of the inner liner and the outer liner. The helmet coupler permits the relative movement and keeps the outer liner and the inner liner coupled together.

Helmets and methods for manufacturing a helmet are described. An example helmet includes a shell and a shock absorbing liner attached to the shell. The shock absorbing liner includes a cavity. The helmet a shock absorbing insert formed of a material different than the material of the shock absorbing liner. The cavity is configured to retain the shock absorbing insert.

Described herein are helmets comprising at least one surface reinforcing component. In some embodiments the surface reinforcing component comprises at least one anchoring feature embedded in a structural feature of the helmet, such as a force absorbing element. In other embodiments, the surface reinforcing component comprises fasteners configured to mate with a respective fastener on a shell of the helmet.

Interchangeably lenses and attachment assemblies for eyewear with removable temples are described. An example attachment assembly for removably magnetically attaching an eyewear temple to a lens may include a magnetic latch having a first latch portion and a second latch portions movably (e.g., pivotably) coupled to the temple. The first and second latch portions may be configured to be positioned on opposite sides of the lens by a carrier. The first and second latch portions may be configured to magnetically attract one another in a magnetic attraction direction. The carrier may be configured to restrict movement of at least one of the first and second latch portions in a second direction opposite the magnetic attraction direction.

An eyewear may include a lens and first and second temples individually removably attachable to opposite ends of the lens. The eyewear may include an attachment mechanism coupled to each of the temples, which includes a tab portion, a lever portion, a magnet attached to one of the tab or lever portions, and a magnetic material, which may be another magnet or a ferromagnetic material, attached to the other one of the tab or lever portions. The magnet and magnetic material are arranged on opposing sides of the tab and lever portions to urge them in a first direction towards one another. A carrier may be attached to each of the first and second end portions and may be configured to position the tab and lever portions on opposite sides of the lens as well as to constrain movement of the tab portion along a direction opposite the first direction.
