An array antenna. In some embodiments, the array antenna includes a base plate having a surface including a plurality of grooves, a plurality of circulator carriers on the base plate, a plurality of cover strips on the circulator carriers, a plurality of circulators, and a plurality of threaded fasteners. The circulator carriers and the cover strips may be secured to the base plate by the threaded fasteners. Each of the circulators may be coplanar with the base plate. Materials in the array antenna may be selected to avoid galvanic corrosion.

Compact long slot antenna

A circulator is provided, comprising, first second and third conductors forming three equally spaced junctions and a permanent magnet configured to apply a shaped bias magnetic field to a ferrite resonator in operable communication with the first, second, and third conductors. The permanent magnet comprises a substantially planar monolithic structure having defined thereon at least first and second substantially concentric regions having first and second respective magnetic field strength levels, wherein the second magnetic field strength level is lower than the first magnetic field strength level. The first and second magnetic field strength levels are configured to cooperate to shape an external bias magnetic field of the permanent magnet to counteract at least a portion of a demagnetizing effect resulting from of an overall shape of the ferrite resonator, to achieve a substantially uniform internal magnetic bias within at least a portion of the ferrite resonator.

Shaped magnetic bias circulator

A dual stacked stripline circulator includes multiple composite ferrite discs, each having an inner portion and an outer portion; a first substrate having an edge with a first composite ferrite disc disposed in the first substrate; a second substrate having an edge with a second composite ferrite disc disposed in the second substrate; a third substrate having an edge with a third composite ferrite disc disposed in the third substrate, the third substrate disposed adjacent the second substrate; a fourth substrate having an edge with a fourth composite ferrite disc disposed in the fourth substrate; a first pattern defining three ports of a first three-port circulator disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate; a second pattern defining three ports of a second three-port circulator disposed between the third substrate and the fourth substrate; and a metal film encircling the edge of the first, second, third and fourth substrate.

Method of providing dual stripline tile circulator utilizing thick film post-fired substrate stacking

An antenna is provided and includes a radiator aperture assembly including a plurality of radiator sticks, each radiator stick including a row of radiating elements configured to transmit and receive RF energy and a body having opposite sides, conductive elements coupled to the radiating elements and a plate disposed proximate to the radiator aperture assembly through which the conductive elements extend. Complementary opposite sides of the respective bodies of adjacent radiator sticks and a surface of the plate are configured to form a slot radiator.

Active electronically scanned array antenna

An integrated differential high power amplifier-radiator array that overcomes the prior art impedance match issues is described. An impedance matching balun is used to feed a high output impedance, differential HPA, which in turn drives a wide band radiator or array of radiators having a matching input impedance to provide a highly efficient, compact transmit system. In one exemplary embodiment, the HPA may be a high impedance Class-B HPA configured as a push-pull cascode amplifier. A high impedance isolator or circulator may be used between the HPA and the radiator. One of ordinary skill in the art will readily appreciate that a receive implementation, using a properly matched low noise amplifier in place of the HPA, is also possible. Similarly, with the addition of a slotline circulator, transceiver operation is also attainable with the addition of an impedance matched receive chain.

Dual stripline tile circulator utilizing thick film post-fired substrate stacking

The present invention relates to active electronically scanned array antennas. A thin, low cost design is provided by coupling electromagnetic energy into periodically driven long slots () using circulators with integrated probes (). The long slots () are formed as grooves () in a conductive base plate (), each groove () bracketed on both sides by conductive strips (). The circulators with integrated probes () are installed between the conductive strips () and the base plate (), to reduce fabrication costs of the machined parts and to facilitate the making of connections between the circulators and the antenna electronics. The probes () protrude partway into the slots () and provide coupling to waves propagating in free space.

Low profile cavity backed long slot array antenna with integrated circulators

A surface mount circulator. The novel circulator includes a substrate, a predetermined number of microstrip lines disposed on a first surface of the substrate, a ground layer and a predetermined number of electrical contacts disposed on the second surface of the substrate, and a mechanism for coupling each microstrip line to one of the electrical contacts. In an illustrative embodiment, the circulator uses edge wrap metallization to wrap a microstrip line down a side of the substrate to connect with a corresponding contact. A ball grid array can then be used to connect the signal contacts and ground at the second surface of the substrate with a circuit board. The circulator also includes a magnet on first surface of the substrate over a resonator circuit connecting the microstrip lines and a pole piece on the second surface of the substrate beneath the ground to provide magnetic bias to the substrate.
