The dynamic enhancement may be utilized with a display of a vehicle and include measuring an ambient light or other external influences influencing symbology of human visibility for the video images to be presented through the display, generating a plurality of enhanced setpoints operable for maintaining symbology of the video images against the ambient light, and directing the display to present the video images according to the enhanced setpoints such that the symbology of the video images is reasonably maintained against the external influences.

A multifunctional self-cleaning surface layer and methods of preparing the multifunctional self-cleaning surface layer are provided. The multifunctional self-cleaning surface layer includes an inorganic matrix including silicon and oxygen; a plurality of photocatalytic active particles distributed within and bonded to the inorganic matrix; and a plurality of nanopores defined within the inorganic matrix in regions corresponding to bonds between the plurality of photocatalytic active particles and the inorganic matrix. Water molecules may be disposed within at least a portion of the plurality of nanopores. In the presence of water and electromagnetic radiation, the plurality of photocatalytic active particles may facilitate a decomposition reaction of any oil or organic residue on the multifunctional self-cleaning surface layer.

Multifunctional self-cleaning surface layer and methods of forming the same

A display comprises a substrate. Sets of light emitting diodes (LEDs) are arranged on the substrate. Each of the sets of LEDs comprises a red LED, a green LED, a blue LED, and each of the sets of LEDs forming a pixel of the display. A sensor is embedded in each of the sets of LEDs. The sensor is arranged in a plane in which the red, green, and blue LEDs are arranged in each of the sets of LEDs. A cover including a dielectric material covers the sets of LEDs. The sensor is configured to sense at least one of ambient light and proximity of an object to the cover.

Microled display with pixelated sensors

A system includes a display. The display includes an array of LEDs covered by a transparent material. The array of LEDs includes a plurality of first, second, third, and fourth LEDs respectively configured to emit red, green, blue, and violet light. The red, green, and blue light from the first, second, and third LEDs is visible to human eye. Violet light from the fourth LEDs is invisible to human eye. The system includes a photocatalytic coating disposed on the transparent material. The photocatalytic coating includes a photo-catalyst responsive to ultraviolet radiation present in sunlight and to the violet light emitted by the fourth LEDs in the array of LEDs. The system includes a controller configured to selectively turn on the fourth LEDs to activate the photo-catalyst in the photocatalytic coating disposed on the transparent material.

Self-cleaning system for displays using light emitting diodes emitting invisible violet light

A self-cleaning film system includes a substrate and a film. The film includes a monolayer formed from a fluorinated material, and a first plurality of regions disposed within the monolayer and spaced apart from one another such that each of the regions abuts, is surrounded by, and is not covered by the fluorinated material. Each of the regions includes a photocatalytic material. The system may include a wave guide disposed adjacent the substrate. The wave guide includes a first light source configured for emitting a first portion of electromagnetic radiation towards the film having an ultraviolet wavelength of from 10 nm to 400 nm, and a second light source configured for emitting a second portion of electromagnetic radiation towards the film having an infrared wavelength of from 700 nm to 1 mm. A method of forming a self-cleaning film system configured for reducing a visibility of a contaminant is disclosed.

Light-enhanced self-cleaning film system and method of forming same

An enhanced imaging system for a motor vehicle includes a vision processing module that generates a data signal, in response to the camera capturing at least one of the video and the image. A graphics processor is configured to tone map the video or image to generate an RGB histogram including an overall tonal range. The processor is further configured to compare the overall tonal range to a tonal threshold. The processor detects one or more objects having a boundary that separates an interior region having an object tonal value from an exterior region having an exterior tonal value. The processor generates an optimized signal for increasing a difference between the object tonal value and the exterior tonal value, in response to the overall tonal range being above the tonal threshold. The system can further include a display device for displaying an optimized video or image.

A display control system includes: a display including a plurality of pixels; a lookup table including grayscale values and magnitudes of power corresponding to the grayscale values, respectively, where first ones of the grayscale values that are less than a predetermined grayscale value are calibrated based on the display achieving a gamma of greater than 2.2 and second ones of the grayscale values that are greater than the predetermined grayscale value are calibrated based on the display achieving a gamma of 2.2; a driver module configured to: based on a grayscale pixel map including a grayscale value for each pixel of the display, determine magnitudes of power to apply to pixels, respectively, using the lookup table; and apply power to the pixels of the display according to the determined magnitudes of power, respectively.

Grayscale and dimming control systems and methods using variable gamma

A method of forming a film system includes depositing a monolayer formed from a fluorocarbon onto a substrate. After depositing, the method includes ablating the monolayer to define a plurality of cavities therein, wherein each of the plurality of cavities is spaced apart from an adjacent one of the plurality of cavities along the monolayer. After ablating, the method includes embedding a photocatalytic material into each of the plurality of cavities to form a film on the substrate and thereby form the film system. The film system includes a plurality of regions including the photocatalytic material and disposed within the monolayer such that each of the plurality of regions abuts and is surrounded by the fluorocarbon.

A self-cleaning film system includes a substrate and an anti-reflection film disposed on the substrate. The anti-reflection film includes a first sheet formed from titanium dioxide, a second sheet formed from silicon dioxide and disposed on the first sheet, and a third sheet formed from titanium dioxide and disposed on the second sheet. The system includes a self-cleaning film disposed on the anti-reflection film and including a monolayer disposed on the third sheet and formed from a fluorinated material selected from the group consisting of fluorinated organic compounds, fluorinated inorganic compounds, and combinations thereof. The self-cleaning film includes a first plurality of regions disposed within the monolayer such that each of the first plurality of regions abuts and is surrounded by the fluorinated material and includes a photocatalytic material.

Textured self-cleaning film system and method of forming same

A self-cleaning film system configured for reducing a visibility of a contaminant includes a substrate and a film. The film includes a monolayer defining a plurality of cavities and formed from a first material having a first surface energy, and a plurality of patches disposed within the plurality of cavities. Each of the patches is formed from a photocatalytic material having a second surface energy that is higher than the first. The film has a touchpoint area having a first use frequency, and a second area having a second use frequency that is less than the first. The patches are present in the touchpoint area in a first concentration and are configured to direct the contaminant towards the second area. The patches are present in the second area in a second concentration that is higher than the first and are configured to reduce the visibility of the contaminant.

A self-cleaning film system includes a substrate and a self-cleaning film disposed on the substrate. The self-cleaning film includes a monolayer formed from an oleophobic material, and a first plurality of regions disposed within the monolayer in a non-periodic pattern such that each of the first plurality of regions abuts and is surrounded by the oleophobic material. Each of the first plurality of regions includes a photocatalytic material.

A method of forming a self-cleaning film system includes ink jet printing a composition onto a substrate. The composition includes an oleophobic material and a photocatalytic material. The method further includes curing the composition to form a self-cleaning film disposed on the substrate and thereby form the self-cleaning film system. The self-cleaning film includes a first plurality of regions including the photocatalytic material and disposed within the oleophobic material such that each of the first plurality of regions abuts and is surrounded by the oleophobic material.

The method includes removing the undeveloped portion so that the developed portion protrudes from the first layer. After removing, the method includes depositing a perfluorocarbon siloxane polymer onto the first layer to surround and contact the developed portion. After depositing the perfluorocarbon siloxane polymer, the method includes removing the developed portion to thereby form the self-cleaning film system.
