An example provides a method for forming an apparatus including a substrate imprinted with a pattern for forming isolated device regions. A method may include imprinting an unpatterned area of a substrate with a pattern to form a patterned substrate having a plurality of recessed regions at a first level and a plurality of elevated regions at a second level, and depositing a first layer of conductive material over the patterned substrate with a plurality of breaks to form a plurality of bottom electrodes. The method may include depositing a layer of an active stack, with a second layer of conductive material, over the plurality of bottom electrodes to form a plurality of devices on the plurality of recessed regions isolated from each other by the plurality of elevated regions.

A directional backlight is disclosed. The directional backlight has a plurality of light sources to generate a plurality of input planar lightbeams. The plurality of input planar lightbeams illuminates a directional backplane that has a plurality of directional pixels to scatter the plurality of input planar lightbeams into a plurality of directional lightbeams. Each directional lightbeam has a direction and angular spread controlled by characteristics of a directional pixel in the plurality of directional pixels. The directional backlight can be used to generate a 3D image by specifying the characteristics of the directional pixels in the directional backplane.

A directional backlight has a directional backplane that has a plurality of directional pixels configured to scatter a plurality of input planar lightbeams into a plurality of directional lightbeams. Each directional lightbeam has a direction and angular spread controlled by characteristics of a directional pixel in the plurality of directional pixels. A modulation layer having a plurality of modulators configured to modulate the plurality of directional lightbeams. The directional backlight is configured to generate a 3D image with multiple views by specifying the characteristics of the directional pixels in the directional backplane.

A directional pixel for use in a display screen is disclosed. The directional pixel receives a planar lightbeam and includes a light propagating layer and a grating to scatter a portion of the planar lightbeam into a directional lightbeam having a direction and angular spread controlled by the grating.

A light field display for providing continuous 3D images to viewers at multiple views is provided. The light field display includes a pixel layer having a plurality of pixel layer elements, a resonant subwavelength lens layer having a plurality of resonant subwavelength lenses and a circuit board connected to the pixel layer and the resonant subwavelength lens layer. Each resonant subwavelength lens in the resonant subwavelength lens layer is integrated with an element in the pixel layer. The element may be either a pixel or a subpixel, such that each image view may be provided per pixel or subpixel in the pixel layer.

An electronic apparatus is provided that includes a number of first components on a first substrate and a number of second components on a second substrate. A lamination material that includes a conducting material is placed between the first components and the second components. Any one first component can couple to a varied subset of second components.

A method of forming a display is provided, wherein the method includes forming a first electrode layer on a first substrate, forming an organic light emitting diode (OLED) stack on the first electrode, forming a second electrode layer over the OLED stack, and forming a bonding layer over the second electrode layer, wherein the bonding layer comprises a conductive material. The bonding layer and the second electrode layer are patterned to form a plurality of micro-OLEDs, wherein the patterning is performed by removing a portion of the bonding layer and the second electrode layer. The plurality of micro-OLEDs on the first substrate is joined to a plurality of pixels in an electronic backplane on a second substrate, wherein any one pixel in the electronic backplane can couple to a varied subset of micro-OLEDs in the plurality of micro-OLEDs.

Display

A device for monitoring a test subject includes a light source and at least one optical waveguide configured for at least one of directing light from the light source onto a biological substrate and receiving the light directed onto the biological substrate. The device also includes a sensor operable to detect the light received, a logic component operable to analyze the light detected by the sensor, an output component operable to convey information from the logic component to a user of the device, and a housing containing the light source, the sensor, the logic component, and the output component, where the at least one optical waveguide forms at least one bristle extending outside of the housing.

A smart helmet included integrated electronics providing safety and convenience features. Helmet features includes a global locating system, an environmental interaction sensor, a mobile communications network device, a small display panel, a microphone and at least one speaker. The helmet is aware of the user's location and interactions with the environment. The helmet can provide data to a user, monitor the user's actions and condition, and send information to others about user's location and condition.

A spin dependent tunneling (&ldquo;SDT&rdquo;) junction of a memory cell for a Magnetic Random Access Memory (&ldquo;MRAM&rdquo;) device includes a pinned ferromagnetic layer, followed by an insulating tunnel barrier and a sense ferromagnetic layer. During fabrication of the MRAM device, after formation of the pinned layer but before formation of the insulating tunnel barrier, an exposed surface of the pinned layer is flattened. The exposed surface of the pinned layer may be flattened by an ion etching process.
