An exhaust gas heat recovery (EGHR) heat exchanger, for recovering waste heat from the hot exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, having a housing and a cylindrical body disposed within the housing. The cylindrical body defines a central passageway and together with the housing defines an annular passageway for the flow of hot exhaust gases. A bypass means is disposed within the central passageway and adapted to selectively by-pass at least a portion of the exhaust gas from the central passageway to the annular passageway. The EGHR heat exchanger also includes at least one fluid tube extending along a tube axis and having at least one lobe extending the length of the tube thereby defining a lobed tube. The lobed tube is twisted about the tube axis forming a twisted lobed tube which is then coiled about the longitudinal axis within the annular exhaust gas passageway.

A cooling fan assembly for cooling a heat exchanger includes a shroud having a plurality of stators extending radially to support a hub. A flow-guide including an outer rim and inner rim surrounds the shroud and extends to the heat exchanger. The outer rim extends from the heat exchanger to the stators. The inner rim extends annularly about the axis and curves convexly from the outer rim. A fan unit includes a plurality of fan blades extending radially from a motor supported by the hub. Each fan blade includes a leading edge facing the stators and a trailing edge facing in the opposite direction with a blade tip extending therebetween. A fan section extends from the inner rim and axially about the fan blades. The stators are disposed between the heat exchanger and the fan blades. The stators have a front edge facing the heat exchanger and a back edge facing the fan blades. Each stator is connected to the inner rim with the front edge extending radially outward and farther than the back edge.

Engine cooling fan assembly

A thermal management system for a vehicle comprises a radiator and a liquid cooled condenser in fluid communication with the radiator. The liquid coolant circulates through the radiator and the condenser. The refrigerant for an HVAC unit also circulates through the condenser, with the condenser transferring heat from the refrigerant to the liquid coolant. The heat exchanger is disposed within the condenser and is in fluid communication with an engine for circulating an engine oil therebetween. The heat exchanger transfers heat from the engine oil to the liquid coolant within the condenser.

A U flow radiator with a header tank split into inlet and outlet sides I and O by a lengthwise divider wall has a coolant inlet consisting of a cylindrical pipe . A hollow cylindrical barrel co extensive and coaxial with pipe and extending across divider wall , with cut outs and opening respectively into both sides I and O. A thin walled, hollow cylindrical sleeve turns within barrel with windows and that alternately block or open the cut outs and , or open both partially. A rotary actuator turns sleeve within barrel . Coolant can be selectively routed all to the tank outlet side O, by passing the radiator for quick warm up. After warm up, coolant can be routed to I or O in desired proportions to increase or decrease cooling capacity. With high engine cooling demand, all coolant is routed to the inlet side I and all coolant passes through radiator

Heat exchanger with integrated flow control valve

A vehicle heater of the type that uses diverted engine coolant is provided with an accelerated warm up process that takes the coolant to a temperature suitable for passenger space heating more quickly. The fan that normally pulls outside air through the front end grill is, after vehicle start up, run in reverse, so as to actually retard the flow of air through the grill. The net effect of a separate structure that physically blocks air flow is achieved merely by using existing components in a new way.

An automotive heat exchanger module comprises a radiator and condenser with conventional side manifold tanks and upper and lower, channel shaped reinforcements. Neither heat exchanger has any brackets or other provision for attachment to the vehicle by separate fasteners. Instead, a center mounted fan module has rectangular front and rear openings the upper and lower edges of which comprise integral features within which the upper and lower core reinforcements are captured and held with a simple push fit.

A vehicle fan shroud and component cooling module (24) includes a fan (44) mounted within a fan ring (32) between the radiator (26) and condenser (28). Pressurized air, either positively pressurized (downstream of fan (44)), negatively pressurized (upstream of fan (44)), or both, is routed from within the fan ring (32) and to the component (22) to cool it. Since the air has not yet passed the radiator (26), it is not substantially hotter than regular ambient air. Unlike rammed ambient air, it is pressurized as long as the fan (44) is turning. It therefore provides better cooling than either rammed ambient air, or pressurized air picked up downstream of the radiator (26).

Vehicle fan shroud and component cooling module

A cooling module for an automotive vehicle is disclosed. The module includes a pair of bypass doors for directing a flow of air around either of the condenser or radiator in the module depending upon the demands for engine cooling, air conditioning, and any other cooling requirements. Under suitable conditions, the radiator bypass feature or the condenser bypass feature will open, providing additional cooling for the condenser or radiator respectively, in order to satisfy given cooling requirements more efficiently.

A high output fan assembly for cooling the radiator of a motor vehicle. The fan assembly comprises a shaft, first and second fans, and a motor. The first fan includes a plurality of first blades, each of which has an inner portion attached to the shaft, while an outer hub is attached to an outer portion of at least one of the first blades. The second fan includes a plurality of second blades, each of which has an inner portion attached to the outer hub. The motor is drivingly connected to the shaft to drive the first and second fans at the same number of revolutions per minute. The fan assembly is situated either for pulling or for pushing air across the radiator and an air conditioning condenser of the motor vehicle.
