A damper assembly includes a housing having a tubular shape defining a main chamber extending along a center axis. A piston is movable along the center axis and divides the main chamber into a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. The piston includes a piston body defining a frequency-adaptive orifice (FAO) passage providing fluid communication between the compression chamber and the rebound chamber. The piston includes an FAO valve assembly having an FAO cover member configured to block fluid flow therethrough in response to application of a low-frequency excitation, and allowing fluid flow through the FAO passage in response to application of a high-frequency excitation. The FAO valve assembly also includes a tappet configured to translate relative to the piston body to bias the FAO cover member to selectively cover the FAO passage in response to the application of the low-frequency excitation.

Hydraulic damper with piston assembly having blow-off valves

A damper assembly comprises a main tube extending along a center axis between a first end and a second end defining a fluid chamber. A main piston is disposed in the fluid chamber dividing the fluid chamber into a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. A piston rod extends along the center axis coupled to the main piston. An external tube extends about the main tube and defines a compensation chamber therebetween. The external tube includes a protrusion extending radially inwardly from an opened end to abut the main tube. An external piston is located in the compensation chamber and coupled to the main tube, dividing the compensation chamber into a first compartment and a second compartment. The first compartment extends between the protrusion and the external piston for containing a working fluid. The second compartment extends between the closed end and the external piston for containing a gas.

Telescopic damper assembly

A damper assembly comprises a housing disposed on a center axis and defining a fluid chamber for containing a working fluid. A piston is slidably disposed in the fluid chamber dividing the fluid chamber into a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. A piston rod attaches to the piston for moving the piston in the housing. The piston includes a first portion and a second portion defining a first perforation. An outer sleeve has an exterior surface and an interior surface and extends between the first portion and the second portion covering the first perforation. The piston includes a first entry valve and a second entry valve located in the piston and coupled to the piston for limiting the working fluid from flowing into the piston with the first entry valve being disposed adjacent the first portion and the second entry valve being disposed adjacent the second portion.

Damper assembly and a piston for a damper assembly

A piston assembly for a damper includes a main piston disposed on a center axis. A piston rod is attached to the main piston. A regulator extends between the piston rod and the main piston defining a compartment. The regulator has at least one first aperture and at least one second aperture. A restrictor divides the compartment into a first and second portion. An actuator having a core is disposed in the first portion movable between an opened and a closed position. The restrictor includes a sleeve disposed in the compartment and attached to the regulator. The sleeve defines a hole in fluid communication with the first and second portions and flares outwardly in the first portion toward the regulator to define a slanted edge extending at an oblique angle relative to the center axis to allow the working fluid to flow smoothly thereby limiting noises generated.

Dual ride damper assembly

A twin tube damper assembly includes a main tube defining a fluid chamber. An external tube extends about the main tube defining a compensation chamber therebetween. A piston, slidably disposed in the fluid chamber, divides the fluid chamber into a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. A rod guide is disposed in the rebound chamber, attached to the main tube and the external tube, defining at least one channel in fluid communication with the rebound and compensation chambers. A piston rod extends through the rod guide and is attached to the piston. A pressure rate sensitive system, disposed in the rebound chamber, is attached to the rod guide in fluid communication with the at least one channel, the rebound chamber, and the compensation chamber for regulating the working fluid flow through the rod guide between the rebound and compensation chambers during compression and rebound strokes.

Twin tube damper including a pressure rate sensitive system

A hydraulic damper includes a piston rod attached to a slidable piston assembly having a hollow housing with first and second valve assemblies disposed therein and each including a valve body and rebound and compression discs for regulating flow of a working fluid through the piston assembly. The first valve assembly is disposed about a sleeve with a valve nut securing them within the housing. The second valve assembly is threadedly secured in the housing, with a pin holding it together. The housing including a coil and an armature, axially slidable through a plunger guide with a spring biasing the armature to a first position with fluid allowed to flow through the sleeve to bypass the first valve. The armature slides to a second position with fluid not bypassing the first valve in response to the coil being energized by an electrical cable which extends through the piston rod.

Dual mode hydraulic damper

A hydraulic suspension damper includes a tube having an opened end and a closed end defining a compartment. A main piston is disposed in the compartment dividing the compartment into a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. A piston rod is attached to the main piston. A rod guide is disposed at said opened end. A stroke stop arrangement includes an insert and an additional piston attached to the piston rod. The insert has a narrowed section including an inner surface defining at least one recess between the distal end and the rod guide and extends axially along the insert in fluid communication with the compression chamber for allowing working liquid flow from the rebound chamber to the compression chamber during the rebound stroke. The at least one recess includes three recesses disposed equidistantly and spaced from one another.
