Inlet manifolds such as intake manifolds, collector tanks, intake pipes, oscillatory intake passages, systems with variable-tract intake manifolds etc., for internal combustion engines operating on the principle of the diesel or Otto engine, where the inlet manifold includes two or more dish-shaped parts that are permanently joined to each other, and the dish-shaped parts are formed sheet parts, castings and/or extruded sections of metal. The permanent joining of the dish-shaped parts may be effected e.g. by adhesive bonding and/or welding.

Inlet manifold

In a vehicle door comprising an outer wall, an inner wall and an equipment carrier which is arranged between the outer and inner walls and, before the outer and inner walls are brought together, can be provided with further door parts, especially a window lifting actuation means, and which serves as a fastening base for at least two door hinges and for at least one door mounted latch arrangement actuable by means of a door lock and interacting with a corresponding frame mounted latch arrangement of the vehicle, and, if appropriate, a window frame, the equipment carrier consists of a bottom boom section with legs directed upwards on one side and at least partially forming a hollow frame, the legs being connected to one another at a distance from the bottom boom section by means of at least one strut. The bottom boom section and the legs preferably consist of an aluminium alloy casting, in which is partially cast a strut consisting of an aluminium alloy extruded hollow section of boxshaped cross section. A door of this type is light, has high rigidity and can be produced economically.

Vehicle door

The tensile loading of a ceramic-metal joint, made by shrink-fit locking a cylindrical ceramic component into a flange of ferrous material in the axial direction of the ceramic component can be improved by undersizing the diameter D of the bore of the flange by 13-27 .mu.m making it, at room temperature, this much smaller than the diameter d of that part of the ceramic component to be attached to the flange by shrink-fit locking, by preparing the cylindrical surface of the said part of the ceramic component with a surface roughness Ra of 0.05-0.2 .mu.m and the surface of the bore in the flange with a roughness Ra of 0.4-0.8 .rho.m, and by heating the flange, before fitting it to the ceramic part, to a temperature such that, after fitting together the ceramic component and the flange, the resultant stresses produced on cooling the assembly to room temperature are below the yield strength R.sub.po.2 of the ferrous material, and the said temperature of heating is below the Wohler temperature of the ceramic material.

Process for shrink-fit locking a cylindrical ceramic part into a flange

A device for conducting away exhaust gases from internal combustion engines comprises at least one sleeve-shaped silencer which encloses an exhaust pipe and forms an enclosed space around said exhaust pipe. The silencer is made up of at least two sleeve-shaped parts, or of a sleeve-shaped part and base part, which are joined together. The portion of the exhaust pipe in the space inside the silencer features perforations and/or sound absorbing elements. The inside of the silencer may be fitted with sound absorbers. The sleeve-shaped parts of the silencer and, if desired, the exhaust pipe and/or the sound absorbers are made of aluminum and/or an aluminum alloy. The sleeve-shaped parts of the silencer are manufactured by impact extrusion, deep drawing or a similar method and are joined together preferably radial to their longitudinal axis. The ends these parts taper down to tube-shaped extensions which fit over the exhaust pipe. To join the sleeve-shaped parts and the tube-shaped extensions to the exhaust pipe a region is provided on which an interlocking profile is created by electromagnetic forces.
