A system and method for adaptive and dynamic synchronization includes a data synchronization controller which enables synchronization of a plurality of different data types between a main computer and one or more remotely disposed computer elements. The controller includes an orchestrator which responds to requests for data synchronization for components in accordance with predetermined policies maintained by a policy management system. A synchronization interface is controlled by the orchestrator in accordance with the policies to select a synchronization engine to service requests for synchronization of different data types from the orchestrator. Synchronization may be handled for on demand and/or for on schedule requests for synchronization in the policy-based system and method.

Adaptive and dynamic data synchronization system for managing data and inventory

Techniques are provided for ranking-based information processing. A method and apparatus are disclosed for managing composite business processes that include multiple trading mechanisms, such as requests for quotes (RFQs), auctions and contracts, or repeat passes through a single trading mechanism. The independence of the individual business processes that manage each trading mechanism is maintained, while each individual business process can be connected to other business processes to form a composite business process. Each individual business process that may be followed by another business process to form a composite process must have at least one state labeled as a conversion state with a conversion transition to another business process. A conversion transition spans the gap between an end state of one business process and the start state of another subsequent business process. When a conversion state is entered by an object, a determination is made as to whether the object is being managed by a composite flow, and if so, what business process to use next. Conversion transitions execute any necessary steps to create a new object of the type required by the next business process in the composite process.

Failures are detected in servers of a transaction processing system, and transactions are routed to less failure prone servers in the system. Servers in the transaction processing system which are faulty for some transaction classes but good for others are detected, and such servers are used in a judicious manner to maximize the throughput and minimize the response time of the system. Error prone servers are occasionally probed to determine if they have improved in terms of their error characteristics. The mechanism implemented consists of three elements. The first is the selection of a routing algorithm based on the state of the transaction processing system. Second, transactions are used to probe systems considered too faulty for use in order to determine if they have improved in terms of their failure characteristics. Finally, soft ABENDs are detected. The algorithm for transaction routing to detect and control the problem of failing servers in a transaction processing system consists of two parts: The first part routes transactions to servers based on the length of the server queues, the response time of the transactions (i.e., queuing delay plus processing delay), and the perceived failure rate. The second part of the algorithm ensures that error prone servers are not completely ignored. Occasional transactions are used to probe servers in order to determine if they have improved in terms of their error characteristics.
