This disclosure provides a field termination assembly (FTA) providing for ease of mounting to a support rail. The FTA provides a lever on a base that cushions against shocks and vibrations during shipment and operation while a housing is mounted on a base secured to a support rail. The base includes a dampener feature which makes it more capable of meeting operation and transportation vibration and shock requirements even for marine applications while still providing high channel density and cable count.

A safety ground terminal apparatus can include a ground terminal operable to switch between a common ground connection or a isolated ground connection, wherein the ground terminal comprises a hinge point that is connectable to a base of a housing via a rail in an arrangement that allows for a disconnection from the common ground connection when the isolated ground connection is required and without compromising electrical contact. The ground terminal can provide a watertight ground connection irrespective of the type of ground connection requirement. The common ground connection or the isolated ground connection can be achieved without any additional parts assembled.

Module-based field termination assembly

This disclosure provides a field termination assembly (FTA) providing for ease of mounting to a support rail. The FTA is easily mounted to a base which is secured to a support rail. The housing includes one or more slots each configured to receive a respective adaptor module configured to be inserted into the slot. Each adaptor module may be configured to perform at least one function related to an associated input or output signal.

A system includes a housing having multiple slots. The system also includes multiple adaptor modules each configured to be inserted into one of the slots and perform at least one function related to an associated input or output signal. For each slot-adaptor module pair, the slot includes one of a key and a receptacle configured to receive the key, and the adaptor module includes the other of the key and the receptacle. Each key fits into the receptacle associated with one type of adaptor module and cannot fit into the receptacles associated with other types of adaptor modules. Each receptacle accepts the key associated with one type of adaptor module and cannot accept the keys associated with other types of adaptor modules. Each of at least one of the keys and the receptacles is rotatable to achieve one of multiple different orientations. Different ones of the keys have different cross-sectional shapes.

Field termination assembly supporting use of mistake-proof keys

A field device apparatus includes a field device that includes a first PCB (Printed Circuit Board) based on a PCB outline of a PWA (Printed Wiring Assembly) and a second PCB based on the PCB outline. One or more pass-through-hole standoffs can be configured with respect to the first and second PCB's in a configuration, wherein the PCB outline is extended to mount the pass-through-hole standoff to the first PCB and the second PCB. The pass-through-hole standoff can be soldered to the first PCB which is connected to a chassis ground that allows a mounting screw to make contact from a top side of the field device to a field mount housing through the pass-through-hole standoff, thereby effectively providing chassis ground connection through mounting screws to the external world. The pass-through-hole standoff can include a through-hole, but does not contain a thread therein.
