Disclosed herein are jet fuel compositions containing (a) a total aromatics content of from 2 vol. % to no more than about 25 vol. %; (b) a net heat of combustion of at least about 125,000 Btu/gal; (c) a concentration of less than about 5 vol. % of hydrocarbons having a boiling point greater than or equal to about 550&#xb0; F., as determined by ASTM D 2887; and (d) a Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Test (JFTOT) thermal stability characterized by a filter pressure drop of no more than 25 mm Hg, a breakpoint temperature greater than or equal to about 300&#xb0; C., and an overall tube deposit rating less than 3, as determined by ASTM D 3241. Methods for their preparation are also disclosed.

Jet fuels having superior thermal stability

A process of upgrading a highly aromatic hydrocarbon feedstream comprising (a) contacting a highly aromatic hydrocarbon feedstream, having a normal paraffin content of greater than at least about 5 wt %, wherein a major portion of the feedstream has a boiling range of from about 300&#xb0; F. to about 800&#xb0; F. under catalytic conditions with a catalyst system, containing a hydrotreating catalyst, a hydrogenation/hydrocracking catalyst, and a dewaxing catalyst in a single stage reactor system, wherein the active metals in the hydrogenation/hydrocracking catalyst comprises from about 5%-30% by weight of nickel and from about 5%-30% by weight tungsten; and(b) wherein at least a portion of the highly aromatic hydrocarbon feedstream is converted to a product stream having a boiling range within jet or diesel boiling ranges.

Method of making high energy distillate fuels

The disclosure describes a high energy density jet fuel composition, having a smoke point about 18 mm as determined by ASTM D1322 and a thermal stability of no more than 25 mm Hg as determined by ASTM D 3241, and a method for making a jet fuel composition, wherein the net heat of combustion is determined by the aromatics content, cycloparaffins content, and normal plus or iso paraffins content in the jet fuel composition.

The shielding member can be deployed by retracting the sharp end of the electrode a protective housing, assisted by spring force provided by the electrode wire so as to self-retract into the protective housing. The deployment and disengagement can be via push button action, and the electrode assembly can be self-retaining on the patient's skin while deployed.

Diesel composition and method of making the same

A hydroprocessing bulk catalyst is provided. A process to prepare hydroprocessing bulk catalysts is also provided. The hydroprocessing catalyst has the formula (M)(L)(S)(C)(H)(O)(N), wherein M is at least one group VIB metal; promoter metal L is optional and if present, L is at least one Group VIII non-noble metal; t, u, v, w, x, y, z representing the total charge for each of the components (M, L, S, C, H, O and N, respectively); ta+ub+vd+we+xf+yg+zh=0; 0=&#x3c;b; and 0=&#x3c;b/a=&#x3c;5, (a+0.5b)&#x3c;=d&#x3c;=(5a+2b), 0&#x3c;=e&#x3c;=11(a+b), 0&#x3c;=f&#x3c;=7(a+b), 0&#x3c;=g&#x3c;=5(a+b), 0&#x3c;=h&#x3c;=0.5(a+b). The catalyst has an X-ray powder diffraction pattern with at least one broad diffraction peak at any of Bragg angles: 8 to 18&#xb0;, 32 to 40&#xb0;, and 55 to 65&#xb0; (from 0 to 70&#xb0; 2-&#x3b8; scale). In one embodiment, the catalyst is prepared by sulfiding at least one Group VIB metal compound and optionally at least one group VIII metal compound with a sulfiding agent forming a catalyst precursor; and mixing the catalyst precursor with a hydrocarbon compound to form the hydroprocessing catalyst composition.

Hydroprocessing bulk catalyst and uses thereof

A process to prepare hydroprocessing bulk catalysts is provided. The hydroprocessing catalyst has the formula (M)(X)(S)(C)(H)(O)(N), wherein M is at least one group VIB metal; X is at least at least a metal compound selected from a non-noble Group VIII metal, a Group VIIIB metal, a Group VIB metal, a Group IVB metal, and a Group IIB metal ('Promoter Metal'); t, u, v, w, x, y, z representing the total charge for each of the components (M, X, S, C, H, O and N, respectively); ta+ub+vd+we+xf+yg+zh=0; and 0=&#x3c;b/a=&#x3c;5, (a+0.5b)&#x3c;=d&#x3c;=(5a+2b), 0&#x3c;=e&#x3c;=11(a+b), 0&#x3c;=f&#x3c;=7(a+b), 0&#x3c;=g&#x3c;=5(a+b), 0&#x3c;=h&#x3c;=0.5(a+b). In one embodiment, the process comprises the steps of: combining and reacting at least one Group VIB metal compound with at least one group VIII non-noble metal compound to obtain an intermediate mixture; sulfiding the intermediate mixture with a sulfiding agent forming a catalyst precursor; and mixing the catalyst precursor with a hydrocarbon compound to form the hydroprocessing catalyst composition.

Process for preparing hydroprocessing bulk catalysts

A hydroprocessing catalyst is provided. The catalyst has an X-ray powder diffraction pattern with at least one broad diffraction peak at any of Bragg angles: 8 to 18&#xb0;, 32 to 40&#xb0;, and 55 to 65&#xb0; (from 0 to 70&#xb0; 2-&#x3b8; scale). In one embodiment, the at least one diffraction peak is greater than 2 degrees wide at &#xbd; height.

The invention includes a process of making a lubricating composition including: contacting a heavy mineral oil feed in a hydrocracking zone with a hydrocracking catalyst at hydrocracking conditions, whereby at least a portion of the heavy mineral oil feed is cracked; recovering at least one gasoline-range fraction and one bottoms fraction from the hydrocracking zone; passing a first portion of the bottoms fraction including not more than about 67 wt. % of the bottoms fraction to a dewaxing zone; and passing a second portion of the bottoms fraction including at least about 33 wt. % of the bottoms fraction back to the fuels hydrocracker for additional processing; and where the bottoms fraction has a viscosity at 100&deg; C. of less than about 4.0; contacting the first portion of the bottoms fraction with a dewaxing catalyst under catalytic dewaxing conditions, where at least a portion thereof is substantially dewaxed; contacting at least a portion of the substantially dewaxed bottoms fraction with a hydrofinishing catalyst under hydrofinishing conditions, thereby producing a hydrofinished, dewaxed bottoms fraction; and removing from the hydrofinished, dewaxed bottoms fraction at least one light fraction including diesel or jet fuel range material, thereby leaving a heavy fraction including the lubricating composition having a naphthenes content of at least about 33 wt. %.

Process for making an automatic transmission fluid composition

The present invention provides for a lubricating composition including: a hydrocracker-derived, highly naphthenic, low viscosity index mineral oil; from about 2 wt. % to about 14 wt. % of at least one polymethacrylate polymer; and from about 2 wt. % to about 14 wt. % of a performance additive package. The hydrocracker-derived, highly naphthenic, low viscosity index mineral oil is prepared by: (1) passing a first bottoms portion including not more than about 67 wt. % of a fuels hydrocracker bottoms recycle stream to a dewaxing zone; and (2) passing a second bottoms portion including at least about 33 wt. % of the recycle stream back to the fuels hydrocracker for additional processing; and where the recycle stream has a viscosity at 100.degree. C. of less than about 4.0; (3) contacting the first bottoms portion with a dewaxing catalyst under catalytic dewaxing conditions, where at least a portion of the hydrocracker bottoms is substantially dewaxed; and (4) contacting at least a portion of the substantially dewaxed hydrocracker bottoms with a hydrofinishing catalyst under hydrofinishing conditions, thereby producing a hydrofinished, dewaxed hydrocracker bottoms; and removing from the hydrofinished, dewaxed hydrocracker bottoms at least one light fraction including diesel or jet fuel range material, thereby leaving a heavy fraction including the hydrocracker-derived, highly naphthenic, viscosity index mineral oil having a naphthenes content of at least about 33 wt. %. The lubricating composition has an unsheared kinematic viscosity at 100.degree. C. of at least about 7.3 centistokes; a sheared kinematic viscosity at 100.degree. C. of at least about 6.8 centistokes, where shear is measured by the 20-hour KRL method; and a Brookfield viscosity at -40.degree. C. of no greater than about 10,000 centipoise.

Automatic transmission fluid composition

High activity slurry catalysts for hydroprocessing heavy hydrocarbon oils are produced from Group VIB metal compounds by sulfiding an aqueous mixture of the metal compound with from greater than about 8 to about 14 SCF of hydrogen sulfide per pound of Group VIB metal.

Process for preparing a dispersed Group VIB metal sulfide catalyst

The hydroprocessing of heavy oils is improved by the use of a high activity slurry catalyst prepared by sulfiding an aqueous Group VIB metal compound with a gas containing hydrogen sulfide to a dosage greater than 8 SCF of hydrogen sulfide per pound of Group VIB metal. After introducing the slurry catalyst into the heavy oil, and subjecting the mixture to elevated temperatures and partial pressures of hydrogen, the mixture is treated in a fixed or ebullated bed of hydrodesulfurization/hydrodemetalation catalyst under hydroprocessing conditions.
