An electrical connector has a conductive member with a conductor receiving shoulder to at least partially define a conductor receiving receptacle at which a conductor may be positioned and a movable conductor engaging member configured for movement along a first path. At one position along the first path, the conductor is engaged between the conductor receiving shoulder and the conductor engaging member. The conductor engaging member also moves along a second path that intersects with the first path. At one of the positions along the second path, the conductor engaging member is retained to permit insertion of a conductor into the conductor receiving receptacle.

A connector guide mounted in front of a receptacle connector is provided with a latch that engages a connector mounted on a circuit board when a mating connector is inserted into the connector on the circuit board. The guide is separate from the plug connector and serves to align contact surfaces and provide strain relief to the receptacle connector.

A light-blocking safety shutter is mounted in a fiber-optic adapter housing that mates with a standard fiber-optic male connector of the type with a fiber-containing ferrule protruding from a forward end. The shutter is mounted in the insertion passage of the adapter and is held in the light-blocking position by the cantilever manner in which the shutter is attached. The shutter may have several different shapes depending on the type of adapter in which it is mounted, including a shutter with a flat bumper panel or a shutter with raised dimple on the bumper panel. The bumper panel contacts the body of the inserted connector and takes the force that opens the shutter so that the ferrule is protected from contacting the shutter. The fiber-optic adapter may include one or more housings for receiving one or more fiber-optic male connectors, whereby the housing includes a shutter mounted in a cantilevered manner.

An ultra-low-profile terminator apparatus for a parallel communications bus is provided. The terminator apparatus includes a male style electrical connector which includes a plurality of individual contact pins. An elongated printed circuit board having a first surface and a second surface is mounted perpendicular to the male connector. Conductive vias formed in the printed circuit board communicate between the first and second surfaces of the printed circuit board, and the contact pins of the male connector are press fit into the vias at the second surface of the printed circuit. Electronic termination components are mounted on the first surface of the printed circuit board, and the conductive vias form conductive paths between the termination components and individual contact pins in the male pin connector. The termination components are arranged on the first surface of the printed circuit board such that at least one of the termination component straddles the printed circuit board such that a first terminal is bonded to the printed circuit board at a first longitudinal side, and a second terminal is bonded to the printed circuit board at a second longitudinal side.

Ultra-low-profile SCSI terminator

A feed-thru IDC terminator is provided for simultaneously terminating a bus and connecting a bus to a peripheral device. A first end of the feed-thru connector includes IDC contacts and a second end of the feed-thru connector includes feed-thru contacts and a printed circuit board is mounted therebetween having termination circuitry thereon.

A low profile electrical adaptor having a high density connector press-fit to a first side of a circuit carrying substrate and a low density connector surface mounted to a second side of the circuit carrying substrate providing for a low profile adaptor assembly having the circuit carrying substrate parallel to the base of the adjacent connectors.
