Fuse state indicators include temperature responsive elements adapted to visually display a number of different fuse states. The displays may include distinct colors and markings that are made visible or concealed from view based on temperature ranges that the fuse is exposed to in use. Various temperature sensitive elements and various markings are disclosed to convey at least three distinct fuse states to interested persons at the location of the fuse.

Fuse with fuse state indicator

A fuse includes a fuse state indicator on the exterior surface of the fuse body. The fuse state indicator includes an electrically conductive element electrically connected to and extending between the terminal elements. A temperature sensitive element proximate and in thermal contact with the electrically conductive element includes material capable of changing color when heated to a predetermined transition temperature to form a mark on the temperature sensitive element. The fuse state indicator forms a first mark on the temperature sensitive element when heat from the electrically conductive element transfers to the temperature sensitive element in response to a first overcurrent condition, and forms a second mark, distinct from the first mark, on the temperature sensitive element when heat from the electrically conductive element transfers to the temperature sensitive element in response to a second overcurrent condition distinct from the first overcurrent condition.

A panelboard for fusible switching disconnect devices. The panelboard includes a chassis coupled to a mounting enclosure, The mounting enclosure can be used indoors or outdoors. The chassis is configured to receive one or more fusible switching disconnect devices. Each of the fusible switching disconnect devices includes both a fuse and a circuit breaker-like disconnect in a single, relatively compact housing. The compactness of the housing allows the panelboard to provide a higher level of overcurrent interruption in a smaller sized mounting enclosure than conventional panelboards. For example, the panelboard can have an interruption per volume rating of at least about 33 amps per cubic inch, as compared to about 2 amps per cubic inch for most conventional panelboards.

Panelboard for fusible switching disconnect devices

A fuse comprising a fuse body having ferrules at opposing ends, a fuse state indicator located on the surface of the fuse body wherein the fuse state indicator may be temperature sensitive or voltage sensitive and a wire extending from one ferrule to the other ferrule wherein the wire is positioned along the surface of the fuse body. The fuse state indicator senses heat generated by the wire or voltage flowing through the wire.

A fused disconnect switch assembly includes a pull out fuse assembly and a switch housing assembly. The fuse assembly includes a line side conducting portion, a load side conducting portion, and a fuse element therebetween. The switch housing assembly includes a fuse receptacle for receiving the fuse, a first contact assembly coupled to the line side conducting portion of the fuse and a second contact assembly coupled to the load side conducting portion of the fuse when the fuse is inserted into the receptacle. An open fuse indication device is in communication with conducting portions of the fuse, and an alarm terminal output extends from the switch assembly housing and is in communication with the open fuse indication device. The open fuse indication device provides local fuse state indication and the alarm terminal output facilitates remote fuse state indication when coupled to external circuitry.

Compact fused disconnect switch

A fused disconnect switch includes at least one switch housing assembly having a housing defining a fuse receptacle and first and second terminal contact assemblies extending therefrom. At least one of the first and second contact assemblies is a bullet contact assembly, and a retractable fuse is received within the fuse receptacle. The fuse includes a primary fuse link and an open fuse indication device.

Fused disconnect module

A high-current fusible switch includes a nonconductive base, a nonconductive removable top, a plurality of conductive fuse clips, and a fuse having blade-type terminals. The fuse clips are fixedly mounted within the base. The fuse is retained within the top. Switching is accomplished by inserting or removing the top so that the fuse completes or breaks the circuit to which the switch is connected. The switch is connected to the circuit directly at the fuse clips so that a compact design is achieved that eliminates undesirable multiple electrical contacts.
