Managing data resource utilization in a wireless network environment comprising a first data network and a second data network is described herein. The described management infrastructure and method incorporates monitoring data usage of a wireless network subscriber over the first data network, determining that the data usage over the first data network meets a specified threshold, and, in response to the determination that usage has reached the specified threshold, administratively disconnecting the wireless network subscriber from the first data network so as to cause a data session of the wireless network subscriber to be reassigned to the second data network.

A method carried out by a telephony application server (TAS) is described that facilitates handling a digital voice network media resource reservation request failure notification, issued by a call session control function, arising from a connection request from an originating mobile user equipment to a terminating mobile user equipment. The method includes the TAS receiving a connection request response message including the digital voice network connection request failure notification. The TAS detects a media resource reservation request failure error condition based on the connection request response message containing the digital voice network media resource reservation request failure notification. Thereafter, the TAS issues a configured error response message to initiate an alternative message connection between the originating mobile user equipment and a message file service, where the message file service comprises an interface facilitating receiving a message from the originating mobile user equipment to the terminating mobile user equipment.

An apparatus is described for managing mobile network services. The apparatus includes a service authorization and utilization control function (SAUCF) element configured to authorize a mobile network service request by acting as a service manager configured to centrally coordinate service authorizations for multiple network services associated with an individual subscriber account by evaluating a service policy defining user access spanning the multiple network services. The service policy includes (a) communication authorization controls affecting permission for a user associated with the subscriber account to access a mobile network service in accordance with one or more criteria applicable to a bundled service category; and (b) charging controls for determining whether a subscriber account includes sufficient credits to use the mobile network service. A real time utilization interface is configured to transmit messages between the SAUCF element and a subscriber service utilization account.

A method and system for remotely accessing an intelligent IP telephony device is provided. Information about at least one IP telephony device associated with a user is stored in a database. The database is accessible to a user through a secured environment. From a remote location, the user may logon to the database and select one or more actions to be performed on any of the IP telephony devices to which they have access.

A system and method are described whereby a mobile device controls access to mobile applications based on access conditions associated with a current access network. To prevent mobile applications from running when the access conditions are not suitable, the mobile device includes a policy database used to store a list of access conditions that are inappropriate for launching the installed applications. The access conditions are based on the type of the current access network used by the mobile device for launching or maintaining the requested application session. The access conditions indicate whether the mobile device is currently accessing its home network or roaming on another provider's network. Similarly, the access conditions indicate the type of network access interface used by the current network to provide the data connection necessary to run the requested application. The policy database correlates predetermined actions with the access conditions associated with a given application session.

Application access control in a mobile environment

A femto cell is provided that automatically routes new communication sessions among the connected mobile and landline handsets based upon local detection of mobile registration with the femto cell, which helps to reduce the backhaul bandwidth requirements and offload backend network processing load. When the mobile handset successfully registers with the femto cell, a User Detection Module at the femto cell routes new calls destined for the mobile telephone number to one or more traditional landline handsets. The femto cell also provides a ring tone to the connected landline handsets for making the outgoing calls. Since the mobile handset remains available for conducting additional communication sessions, the user is able to talk on the landline handset while conducting a simultaneous data session using the mobile phone.

A telephone is described that allows any arbitrary combination of key strokes, including numerical keys, extension keys, as well as function keys such as TRANSFER, CONFERENCE, etc., to be programmed such that the entire sequence of key strokes can be recalled with the touch of a single button. The phone can be programmed directly by operation of the telephone user interface on the phone (i.e., the keys, phone display, and speaker prompting the user) and a program button dedicated to the feature of programming a separate programmable button to map to the specified key sequence. The feature can be implemented in advanced telephones capable of voice over Internet Protocol networks, and supporting the Session Initiation Protocol. In these more advanced phones, the programming can be done by a system administrator or by the user of the phone via a computer with internet access.

A system and method are described whereby an IP telemetry gateway is hosted by an MVNO in order to relay the telemetry information between remote devices located in an IP network and telemetry servers operated by legacy telemetry customers. In an embodiment, the IP network is a CDMA2000 1X wireless network. Once the IP network identifies a device as part of the telemetry network, it assigns such device a static private IP address. A VPN connection is used to extend the private network of remote devices to the IP telemetry gateway. The IP telemetry gateway maps each remote device's legacy address to its corresponding IP address in order to communicate with the legacy servers and the wireless network via circuit switched and packet data connections respectively. Preferably, the remote devices maintain an always on data connection to allow the telemetry servers to address the remote devices at any time.

A method and apparatus for implementing a presence based universal camp-on feature in packet-based telephony systems are disclosed. A first packet-based device is subscribed to a line status of a second packet-based device. A first notification is received into the first packet-based device from the second packet-based device when the line status of the second packet-based device is in a busy state. A second notification is received into the first packet-based device from the second packet-based device when the line status of the second packet-based device is in an idle state. A user of the first packet-based device is prompted with an option to establish a communication session with the second packet-based device upon receiving the second notification into the first packet-based device. A communication session is established between the first packet-based device and the second packet-based device in response to receiving an accept-call command into the first packet-based device. The first packet-based device and the second packet-based device may be packet-based telephones, such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) telephones.

Method and apparatus for implementing a presence-based universal camp-on feature in packet-based telephony systems

A method for call parking in a network telephony system is disclosed. A first user agent and a second user agent establish a communication session, and the second user agent enters a call park number to initiate a call park of the communication session. Subsequently, the call park number and the location of the second user agent are sent to a server, which authorizes the second user agent for call parking. The server then registers the call park number, and the communication session between the first and second user agents is parked. When a third user agent wants to pick up the communication session, the third user agent calls the server by entering the call park number. The server then routes the third user agent to the second user agent, which in turn refers the third user agent to the first user agent. The first and third user agents then establish their own communication session, the communication session between the first and second user agents is terminated, and the call park number is deregistered.

Method and system for device-based call park and pick-up

A method is shown for splitting a static pool of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses in a Remote Access Server (RAS) of a network server device into a dynamically assignable pool and a fixed assignment pool. The IP addresses of the dynamically assignable pool are available to any remote client connecting to the network server. The IP fixed assignment pool contains IP addresses that have a predetermined assignment to specific remote clients. When a remote client connects to the network server, it requests assignment of an IP address from the RAS. If the remote client does not specify an IP address in its IP address request, then an IP address from the dynamically assignable pool is assigned to the remote client for the duration of its connection to the network server. If the remote client does specify an IP address in its IP address request, then the fixed assignment pool is searched for the requested IP address and the address is assigned to the remote client. The IP addresses of the fixed assignment pool are never assigned to a remote client that does not request a specific IP address.
