A display device includes a display panel comprising a plurality of pixels, a data driver configured to generate data voltages based on a gamma reference voltage, and to provide the data voltages to the plurality of pixels, a gate driver configured to provide gate signals to the plurality of pixels, and a controller configured to control the data driver and the gate driver. The controller is configured to initialize the gamma reference voltage when a blank period starts in a frame period comprising an active period and the blank period, and to change the gamma reference voltage when a duration of the blank period reaches at least one threshold time.

Display device supporting variable frame mode, and method of operating display device

A display apparatus includes a local dimmer, an image compensator, a display panel and a light source. The local dimmer is configured to generate a dimming signal representing a degree of dimming for a light source block based on input image data. The image compensator is configured to determine a grayscale gain based on input grayscale value of the input image data and the dimming signal and to compensate luminance of the input image data based on the grayscale gain. The display panel is configured to display an image based on the compensated input image data. The light source is configured to provide light to the display panel based on the dimming signal.

Display apparatus and method of driving the same

A luminance control circuit of a display device includes a target luminance gain calculator calculating a target luminance gain based on an average luminance of a first image signal when the first image signal is determined to be a still image, an output luminance gain calculator calculating an output luminance gain based on a previous output luminance gain of a previous frame and the target luminance gain of a present frame, and a luminance scaler outputting a second image signal obtained by changing a luminance of the first image signal based on the output luminance gain.

A display system includes a display apparatus and a pivot performing part. The display apparatus includes a display panel configured to display an image and including a gate line and a data line, a gate driving part configured to output a gate signal to the gate line, and a data driving part configured to output a data signal to the data line. The pivot performing part is configured to receive, from the display apparatus, a pivot request data for performing a pivot function which rotates the image, and is to perform the pivot function on image data of the image in response to the pivot request data. A manufacturing cost of a display apparatus may be decreased, and a delay time of an image display may be decreased.

A stage of a gate driving circuit includes: a first control transistor diode-connected between a first input end of the stage and a first node, biased by a first input signal, and back-biased by a second input signal; a second control transistor including a control end which receives a third input signal, a first end connected to the first node, and a second end connected to a first voltage, and back-biased by a fourth input signal; a first output transistor including a control end connected to the first node, a first end connected to a clock input end of the stage, and a second end connected to a first output end of the stage; and a capacitor connected between the control and second ends of the first output transistor. Gate driving circuit and display apparatus including the same

A display apparatus includes a frame memory storing an input image signal having first and second reference blank durations respectively corresponding to a first frame and a second frame. A blank controller circuit determines a second delay blank duration based on the first and second reference blank durations and a first delay blank duration, a signal delay part generates an output image signal having the first and second delay blank durations corresponding to the first frame and second frame, respectively, is based on the stored input image signal, and a display panel displays an image based on the output image signal. The display apparatus may reduce or prevent flicker caused by variations in driving frequency that may be variable on a per-frame basis. A blank duration of a frame is controller, or a frame may be inserted in a blank duration based on blank durations of adjacent frames.

Apparatus and method of driving a variable rate display

A method of driving a display panel includes providing a first clock signal having a first frequency and a second clock signal having a second frequency different from the first frequency. The method also includes providing a data signal of an N-th frame image to the display panel using the first clock signal, and providing a data signal of an (N+1)-th frame image to the display panel using the second clock signal. N is a natural number.

Method of driving display panel using a plurality of clock signals and display apparatus for performing the same

A display apparatus includes a timing controller, a data driver and a display panel. The timing controller generates a mode selection signal and output image data in response to input image data. The data driver generates first through N-th data voltages in response to the mode selection signal and the output image data and applies the first through N-th data voltages to first through N-th data lines. The display panel is connected to the first through N-th data lines. During the first operation mode, each of a polarity pattern of first through M-th data voltages and a polarity pattern of (M+1)-th through N-th data voltages repeats a first polarity pattern. During the second operation mode, the polarity pattern of the first through M-th data voltages repeats the first polarity pattern, and the polarity pattern of the (M+1)-th through N-th data voltages repeats a second polarity pattern.

A display panel driving apparatus includes a data driving part, a comparing part, a data signal controlling part, and a gate driving part. The data driving part generates a dummy data signal in response to dummy image data, outputs the dummy data signal to a dummy data line of a display panel, generates a data signal in response to image data, and outputs the data signal to a data line of the display panel. The comparing part outputs a comparison signal in response to the dummy data signal and a delayed dummy data signal generated due to a load of the dummy data line. The comparison signal indicates how much the delayed dummy data signal is delayed with respect to the dummy data signal. The data signal controlling part controls the data signal using the comparison signal.

Display panel driving apparatus, method of driving a display panel using the same, and display apparatus having the same

A signal processing circuit includes an input gamma adjuster configured to adjust gamma characteristics of an image signal and to output a gamma adjustment image signal, an image signal processor configured to generate a scaling signal corresponding to image characteristics of the gamma adjustment image signal and to convert the gamma adjustment image signal into an intermediate data signal in response to the scaling signal, and an output gamma adjuster configured to convert the intermediate data signal into a data signal on a basis of a first lookup table corresponding to a first gamma curve, a second lookup table corresponding to a second gamma curve, and the scaling signal.

Image signal processing circuit for gamma adjustment and display device including the same

A 3D image display device includes a display device including a plurality of pixels and displaying each of a left-eye image and a right-eye image. The display device inserts an black image between the left-eye image and the right-eye image such that the left-eye image is displayed for part of four frames and the black image is displayed for the remaining frames and the right-eye image is displayed for part of four other frames and the black image is displayed for the remaining other frames.

3 dimensional image display device

A display apparatus includes gate lines extending in a first direction, data lines extending in a second direction crossing the first direction, and pixels connected to the gate lines and the data lines. The pixels include pixels arranged in a k-th column between a k-th data line and a (k+1)th data line. The pixels arranged in the k-th column are arranged in a plurality of groups, and each of the groups includes 2i first pixels connected to the k-th data line and 2i second pixels connected to the (k+1)th data line. Successive ones of the pixels in each group are connected to the k-th data line and the (k+1)th data line in alternating manner.

The present invention provides a display device including a first block including a first primary color pixel and a second primary color pixel having substantially a same area, a second block alternatingly disposed with the first block along the first direction, the second block including a third primary color pixel, a fourth primary color pixel and a white pixel. The first block and the second block have substantially a same area and the third primary color pixel has an area wider than the fourth primary color pixel and the white color pixel.

A display device includes pixel patterns to display an image. Each pixel pattern is repetitively arranged in row and column directions, including primary pixels, first complex pixels and second complex pixels. Each primary pixel is composed of two primary color sub-pixels configured to provide two primary colors of three primary colors, wherein the three primary colors comprise red, green and blue. Each first complex pixel is composed of one primary color sub-pixel configured to provide a remaining primary color of the three primary colors and a first non-primary color sub-pixel configured to provide a first color selected from non-primary colors, wherein the non-primary colors are different from the three primary colors. A method of displaying a three-dimensional stereoscopic image includes generating a plurality of left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color data using a left-eye or right-eye data frame, calculating a plurality of left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color dimming levels using the left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color data, sequentially outputting a plurality of left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color data frames, corrected based on the left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color dimming levels, to a display panel, and sequentially providing a plurality of left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color lights, generated from a light source part based on the left-eye or right-eye virtual primary color dimming levels, to the display panel.
