A mechanism including: a toggle rotatably connected to a base structure; a stop fixed to the base for limiting a rotational travel of the toggle, the stop being fixed to the base such that there is no relative movement between the stop and the base; a biasing element having a first end attached to the base and a second end attached to the toggle to bias the toggle towards the stop when the toggle is positioned on a first side of a singular position and the toggle is biased towards an opposite direction from the stop when the toggle is positioned on a second side of the singular position; and an inertial element movably disposed relative to the base and the toggle to move the toggle from the first side to the second side of the singular position when the base undergoes an acceleration event greater than a predetermined threshold.

A heating circuit for an energy storage device having a core with an electrolyte, inputs, a capacitance across the electrolyte and the core, and internal surface capacitance between inputs which can store electric field energy between internal electrodes of the energy storage device that are coupled to the inputs, including: a power source coupled to one of the inputs, wherein the power source provides positive and negative input currents to the input, the positive input current flows in to one of the inputs and the negative input current flows out another of the inputs; and a controller for controlling the power source to provide alternating between the positive and negative input currents to the input at a frequency sufficient to effectively short the internal surface capacitance of the energy storage device to generate heat and raise a temperature of the electrolyte.

A service vehicle for charging a parked electric vehicle, the service vehicle including: one or more charging robots disposed on the service vehicle, the one or more charging robots being configured to supply electrical energy to the parked electric vehicle to charge one or more batteries of the electric vehicle. Where the one or more charging robots are configured to have a first shape for storage on the service vehicle and to have a second shape when deployed from the service vehicle, the second shape being configured to charge the one or more batteries of the electric vehicle; and the second shape being different from the first shape. The charging robot including a source of electrical energy; and a charging cable for electrically connecting the source of electrical energy to the one or more batteries of the electric vehicle.

Methods and apparatus for heating and self-heating of batteries at low temperatures

An inertial mechanism including an activating mechanism and a time delay mechanism coupled to the activating mechanism for delaying a time in which the activating mechanism is activated after a predetermined acceleration profile occurs. Where a coupling of the time delay mechanism with the activating mechanism to activate the activating mechanism initially moves away from the coupling when the predetermined acceleration profile occurs before the coupling occurs after a time delay.

A shock testing machine including: a test platform for holding an item to be shock tested; a carriage for carrying the test platform and being movable relative to the test platform in a testing direction, the testing direction being a direction of movement of the carriage; one or more rails movably supporting one of the test platform and the carriage; a stop configured to stop the carriage from moving in the testing direction at a predetermined location while allowing the test platform to continue moving in the testing direction past the predetermined location; and a brake configured to decelerate the test platform after the carriage has been stopped by the stop.

Long-duration shock testing machine

A metal-oxygen battery including: a battery core, gas container and a movable member. The battery core including a metal anode; a non-aqueous electrolyte; a porous cathode; and terminals for providing electrical power from the battery core. The gas container being configured to hold a pressurized gas at least partially comprising oxygen. The movable member being configured to be movable from a non-activated position in which the pressurized gas in the container is sealed from entering the porous cathode and an activated position in which the pressurized gas flows into the porous cathode to activate the battery core.

Metal-oxygen primary reserve batteries for munitions and the like applications

An inertial mechanical delay mechanism including: a first member rotatable about a first axis in a first direction. The first member having a first center of mass offset from a line parallel to a direction of acceleration and perpendicular from the first axis. A first elastic material exerts a first biasing force to the first member to bias the first member in a second direction. A second member is rotatable about a second axis in a third direction. The second member rotatable in a third direction by at least indirect interaction with the first member when the first member rotates a first angle in the first direction. A second elastic material exerts a second biasing force to the second member to bias the second member in a fourth direction. The first member is configured to rotate the first angle when the acceleration is greater than a predetermined magnitude and duration.

Inertial delay mechanisms for low-g and long-duration acceleration event detection and for initiation devices in munitions and impulse switches and the like

A shock testing machine including: a carriage for holding a component to be tested, the carriage being configured to be movable in a linear direction along one or more elongated rails; a drum rotatable on a shaft, the drum having a circumferential surface; a cable having one end connected to the carriage and an other end connected to the drum; a motor having an output connected to the shaft to rotate the drum under the motive power of the motor to wind the cable on the circumferential surface of the drum; and a clutch disposed in a power train operatively connecting the motor to the drum, the clutch having a disengaged state and an engaged state. Where the motor is controlled to disengage the clutch while the motor reaches a predetermined rotational speed or predetermined rotational torque and to engage the clutch when the motor reaches the predetermined rotational speed or predetermined rotational torque to accelerate the carriage and component to be tested in the linear direction.

A method of actuating a device, the method including: allowing a movable mass to move back and forth in a first portion of a passage upon the device experiencing a first acceleration profile having a first magnitude and a first duration; and allowing the movable mass to move to a second portion of the passage to actuate the device upon the device experiencing a second acceleration profile having a second acceleration lower than the first acceleration and a second duration greater than the first duration. The device can be one of an inertial igniter, a normally open latching electrical circuit, a normally open non-latching electrical circuit, a normally closed latching electrical circuit or a normally closed non-latching electrical circuit.

Actuation mechanism for actuating a device and method for actuating a device

A device for depassivation of an energy storage device having an anode, a cathode and a core with an electrolyte, the device including: a first switch configured to provide a positive input voltage to the anode; a second switch configured to provide a negative input voltage to the anode; and a controller configured to: detect that a first predetermined event related to a buildup of passivation has occurred with regard to the energy storage device; switch between a positive input voltage and a negative input voltage provided to the anode at a frequency sufficient to depassivate the anode; discontinue the switching when a second predetermined event related to passivation has occurred.

An inertial igniter for igniting a thermal battery, including: a base having a first projection; a striker mass rotatably connected to the base having a second projection, when the striker mass is rotated towards the base, the first projection impacts the second projection; a member having a first portion engaging with a second portion of the striker mass to restrict rotation of the striker mass unless a predetermined acceleration is experienced; a mass movable from a first position where an acceleration is less than the predetermined acceleration and a second position where the acceleration is greater than the predetermined acceleration to permit the first and second portions to come out of engagement; a spring for biasing the mass in the first position; and a rotation prevention member for permitting impact of the first and second projections when the predetermined acceleration is experienced and the mass moves to the second position.
