A method for providing application functionality protection. The method includes accessing a distributed computer system having a cluster including a plurality of nodes, and receiving an indication of an application failure. The method further includes attempting to restore the application through a number of application restart attempts, and receiving an indication that the restart attempts have not restored the application. An image history is then accessed to obtain a last known good point in time image of the application. The application is restored in accordance with the last known good point in time image.

A computer-implemented method for disaster recovery from binary large objects may include (1) identifying a volume of data to be protected, (2) identifying a binary large object storage system, (3) replicating the volume to the binary large object storage system by writing to a binary large object file on the binary large object storage system to be readable as a consumable virtual disk that may represent the volume and (4) mounting the consumable virtual disk directly from the binary large object file. Systems and methods for disaster recovery from binary large objects

Compatibility is provided between a high availability clustering system and a virtualization environment. A hardware level hypervisor runs on each host, and VM(s) run on each hypervisor. A shared virtual storage manager runs on each VM, and facilitates sharing virtual storage between VMs. Sharing virtual storage can be performed in the context of a failed application or VM. A shared virtual storage manager VM detects that the application is being failed over from the source VM to the target VM, detaches the virtual storage from the source VM, and attaches it to the target VM. The shared virtual storage manager can also enable sharing of the virtual storage when a monitored application is failed over in response to the failure of a hypervisor. Virtual storage can additionally act as an arbitrator to resolve an occurrence of split brain, when VMs become disconnected.
