Solvent deasphalting (SDA) in series is used to extract deasphalted oil from heavier hydrocarbons in series. Instead of stripping the pitch material of solvent in the second stage which can stick in the pitch stripper and inhibit flow, a dryer is used to vaporize solvent for recycle to the second SDA unit and produce pitch solids.

Process and apparatus for two-stage deasphalting

A process for de-ashing pitch. The pitch from a slurry hydrocracking process is mixed with a solvent. The mixture is separated into solvent and soluble materials and insoluble materials. The insoluble materials can be dried to recover solvent which may be recycled. The solvent and soluble materials are separated. The solvent may be recovered and recycled. Hi-Sol 15 may be the solvent. Additionally, CSO may be the solvent and a portion thereof may be used with the de-ashed pitch to make an asphalt binder.

Processes for producing deashed pitch

A process for recovering hydrocarbons from a slurry hydrocracking reactor. The hydrocarbons are recovered by taking a drag stream of the slurry in the reactor. After separating lighter hydrocarbons in a separation zone, the heavier hydrocarbons can be processed in a deashing zone, with a vacuum column bottoms from a separation of the effluent stream recovered from the reactor. The deashing zone can recover the heavier hydrocarbons in a deashed pitch. Additionally, a VGO rich stream from the deashing zone may be recycled back to the reactor.

Processes for recovering hydrocarbons from a drag stream from a slurry hydrocracker

One exemplary embodiment can be a process for producing a diesel fuel. The process can include providing a hydrocarbon feed to a residue processing unit. Generally, the residue processing unit includes a solvent deasphalting zone, a hydroprocessing zone, and a hydroprocessing fractionation zone. The process can further include recycling at least a portion of an unconverted oil stream from the hydroprocessing fractionation zone, and sending one part of the at least a portion of the recycled unconverted oil stream to the unconverted oil fractionation zone providing a light unconverted oil stream downstream of the solvent deasphalting zone and a heavy unconverted oil stream to the solvent deasphalting zone.

Process for producing diesel fuel

A binder for making metallurgical coke and a process for making the binder. The binder is thermally hydrocracked pitch which has been de-ashed. The binder may be mixed with low rank bituminous coal, heated to make coke which is acceptable as a metallurgical coke. The thermally hydrocracked pitch may be de-ashed by mixing with a solvent, and separating the insoluble portions from the soluble portions using a centrifuge. The soluble portions may be separated from the solvent, for example, in a fractionating section, and used as the binder with poor coking coal to make metallurgical coke.

Binder for metallurgical coke and a process for making same

One exemplary embodiment can be a process for recycling a deashed pitch to a slurry hydrocracking zone. The process may include adding a solvent to a neat pitch to obtain a mixture, separating a supernate and a precipitate from the mixture, segregating the solvent from the supernate, and recycling the deashed pitch from the supernate to the slurry hydrocracking zone.
