Embodiments of a method in a network node for resource allocation are disclosed. The method includes selecting a user set of wireless devices from available predefined user sets; estimating expected data rates for the wireless devices in the selected user set for a selected radio resource; computing a weighted sum of the expected rates of the wireless devices in the user set; and assigning a given the selected radio resource to the user set with the highest weighted sum. A criterion for dynamic resource allocation that can opportunistically exploit the channel variations towards achieving the optimal trade-off between the network capacity and wireless device-fairness is also disclosed.

Resource allocation in MU-MIMO OFDMA wireless systems

According to one aspect, a network node is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to allocate resources for a reference signal signaling for a first wireless device, the allocated resources configured to separate, in a slot, at least one transmission layer of the first wireless device from at least one transmission layers of a second wireless device by at least one of scheduling the first wireless device and second wireless device different reference signal ports that are separated by using the same resource elements and different CDM codes, scheduling the first wireless device and second wireless device at least one shared reference signal port using the same resource elements and CDM code, and scheduling the first wireless device and second wireless device on different reference signal ports that are separated by FDM using different resource elements and the same CDM codes.

Configuration and resource allocation for downlink demodulation reference signals

A method and network node for predicting and adapting to mobile radio link characteristics in a sector are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes learning a set of at least one trajectory based at least in part on a first set of observations received from at least one wireless device (WD), a trajectory including a subset of the first set of observations. The method also includes assigning a trajectory in the set of at least one trajectory to a first WD of the at least one WD based at least in part on a second set of observations received from the first WD subsequent to receipt of the first set of observations. The method further includes adjusting an update period for receiving future observations from the first WD based at least in part on the assigned trajectory.

Method and apparatus for predicting and adapting to mobile radio link characteristics in a sector

A method and network node for single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MEMO) codebook-based precoder selection and for rank adaptation are provided. According to one aspect, a method includes, for each one of a plurality of rank hypotheses: selecting a precoder matrix based on an uplink transmit covariance matrix; and estimating a respective information carrying capacity, ICC, for the rank hypothesis based at least in part on the selected precoder matrix. The method further includes selecting an uplink SU-MIMO precoding matrix based at least in part on the estimated ICC for each rank hypothesis.

Uplink single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MIMO) precoding in wireless cellular systems

A network node is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to estimate spatial transmission information, STI, for each of a plurality of wireless devices, and determine spatial separability among the plurality of wireless devices based at least in part on the estimated STI for each of the plurality of wireless devices. The processing circuitry is further configured to cause scheduling of the plurality of wireless devices on the same communication resources based at least in part on the determined spatial separability.

Multi-user coordinated transmission in cellular systems

A method and apparatus for beamspace processing in a radio access node are proposed. A channel estimate, which characterizes a radio channel between the antenna elements of an antenna array and a user equipment for a given time and a given frequency, is transformed using multiple distinct sets of spatial orthonormal basis functions to obtain transformed channel estimates. Each one of the distinct sets of spatial orthonormal basis functions defines a respective one of beamspace transformations. Based on measures of quality of beamspace transformation, a set of spatial orthonormal basis functions is selected from the sets of the spatial orthonormal basis functions to satisfy a beamspace reduction criteria for the radio channel. Data streams are encoded, based on a selected transformed channel estimate, into encoded data streams. The encoded data streams are then transmitted through the antenna elements of the antenna array.

Method and apparatus for beamspace processing based on multiple beamspace bases

Systems and methods are disclosed herein that relate to Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) aware sector-carrier allocation. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a network node in a wireless communication system comprises selecting a sector-carrier for a wireless device from among a plurality of sector-carriers in accordance with a MU-MIMO aware sector-carrier allocation procedure that takes into account possible MU-MIMO pairings for the wireless device on the plurality of sector-carriers. The method further comprises providing an indication of the sector-carrier selected for the wireless device to at least one node selected from a group consisting of: another network node and the wireless device. By taking into account possible MU-MIMO pairings for the wireless device when performing sector-carrier allocation, performance of the wireless communication system is improved.

MU-MIMO-aware sector-carrier allocation

A method of operation of a scheduler implemented in a network node of a cellular communications system comprises scheduling one or more delay-tolerant transmissions by one or more respective wireless devices in a subframe. Scheduling the one or more delay-tolerant transmissions by the one or more respective wireless devices comprises, for each wireless device: identifying a plurality of available resources in a subframe; for each available resource of the plurality of available resources in the subframe, determining one or more link adaptation parameters for the wireless device for the available resource based on information representing a statistical model of predicted puncturing of delay-tolerant transmissions using the available resource in order to enable transmission of delay-sensitive transmissions; and selecting one of the plurality of available resources in the subframe for the delay-tolerant transmission of the wireless device based on at least one of the one or more link adaptation parameters.
