A method for managing data in a system includes a data filtering. Value information is quantized for each of one or more different filters according to a Quality of Information (QoI) assessment of data and related to a corresponding one of the filters. Data amount filtering information is determined for each of the value information indicating an amount of information to be filtered. Filter information is provided for each of the filters being used for filtering, the filter information including the determined data amount filtering information and category assignment information, wherein the category assignment information indicates an assignment of a respective one of the filters to a respective one of a plurality of predefined, appropriate data categories. Current importance category information is provided for at least one of the data categories and a common calculation procedure is applied for the filters.

Method and system for managing data

A method semantically queries a database by a machine-to-machine application. The database comprises hierarchically structured resources, and semantic information is annotated to at least one resource. The method includes issuing a semantic query for the database. A semantic engine analyzes the semantic query. The semantic engine translates the analyzed semantic query into one or more queries satisfying a communication protocol of the hierarchical resource structure of the database. The translated queries are provided to the database as a query result.

A method generates a virtual thing for a machine-to-machine application of a machine-to-machine system. The system includes a management function, a mashup-manager and one or more database connected to the system. The database provides one or more member resources for the machine-to-machine applications. The management function sends a request for generating a virtual thing to the mashup-manager. The mashup-manager initiates the generation of the requested virtual thing based on the information provided in the request on at least one of the databases. The request for generating the virtual thing includes virtual thing generation information comprising: member resource information, a predefined query for collecting data from the member resource according to the member resource information and semantic logic information for performing logic on the collected data.
