A display apparatus comprises a display panel comprising a plurality of dimming areas, a light source unit configured to supply light to the display panel, a timing controller configured to receive a control signal and input data and to generate a gate control signal, a data control signal, and a light source control signal, a display panel driving unit configured to drive the display panel based on the gate and data control signals, and a light source driving unit configured to drive the light source unit based on the light source control signal, wherein based on the input data, the timing controller is configured to determine a first color of at least any one dimming area among the dimming areas and a second color in a complementary color relationship to the first color and to supply information on the first and second colors to the light source driving unit.

Display apparatus and driving method thereof

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a gamma mapping unit configured to receive red, green, and blue image information from an external device. During the first field, the gamma mapping unit generates first to third data signals for controlling the first to third pixels based on the red, green, and blue image information in synchronization with the backlight unit. During the second field, the gamma mapping unit generates fourth and fifth data signals for controlling the first and second pixels based on at least one of the first to third data signals or based on the red, green, and blue image information. As the quantity of the second color light leaked is adjusted through the first and second color filters in the second field, a color reproduction range and brightness of the liquid crystal display panel are improved. Thus, the display quality of the liquid crystal display apparatus is improved.

Liquid crystal display apparatus and driving method thereof

A display apparatus includes: a signal controller to generate first to fourth image data from first to third input image signals; a pixel to subsequently receive first to fourth data voltages corresponding to the first to fourth image data during first to fourth subframe periods; a backlight including first to third light emitting elements configured to generate light of first to third colors, respectively; and a backlight driver. The backlight driver is to selectively switch the first to third light emitting elements based on color information of the first to fourth image data, to turn on at least one of the first to third light emitting elements during each of the first to fourth subframe periods, and to switch the first to third light emitting elements to provide light of a same color to the pixel during two subframe periods from among the first to fourth subframe periods.

Display apparatus

An image signal provided from an external device is converted into a data signal such that an image is displayed on a display panel, and a first light control signal and a second light control signal are output. A backlight unit provides the display panel with a first color light and a second color light different from the first color light in response to the first light control signal and the second control signal. The display panel driving unit also determines a pulse width of each of the first light control signal and the second light control signal according to a color characteristic of the image signal.

A method of driving a liquid crystal display apparatus includes gamma-correcting first and second gray scale data using a first gamma value to generate first and second luminance data; generating sub luminance data based on a smaller value of the first and second luminance data; correcting the sub luminance data using a second gamma value larger than the first gamma value to generate sub correction luminance data; correcting the first luminance data using the sub or second luminance data to generate first correction luminance data; correcting the second luminance data using the sub or first luminance data to generate second correction luminance data; performing inverse gamma correction on the first, second and sub correction luminance data using the first gamma value to generate first, second and sub correction gray scale data; and providing first to third pixels with the first, second, and sub correction gray scale data.

Liquid crystal display apparatus and a driving method thereof

A display apparatus, includes: a display panel including: gate lines extended in a first direction, data lines extended in a second direction, sub-pixels, and a first color filter, a second color filter, and a substantially colorless portion sequentially arranged in the first direction in one-to-one correspondence with the sub-pixels; and a light providing unit configured to supply a first color of light and a second color of light different from the first color of light to the display panel in association with a first sub-frame and a second sub-frame, respectively. In a display apparatus, one frame includes a first sub-frame in which a previous image is held and a second sub-frame in which a present image is displayed. A plurality of sensors recognizes an object disposed on a display panel and sequentially outputs sensing signals in response to scan signals. Sensing signals are divided into a first sensing signal read out during a first sub-frame and a second sensing signal read out during a second sub-frame, and a control circuit generates a noise free signal using the first and second sensing signals. Thus, a coordinate value indicating the position of the object may be generated based on the noise free signal, thereby preventing mis-operation or malfunction caused by the noise.

A sensing circuit includes a sensor array, a first controller and a second controller. The sensor array is charged by a sensing signal corresponding to an external light in response to a driving signal during a first time period and discharged in response to a switching signal during a second time period. The first controller provides the driving signal to the sensor array. The second controller provides the switching signal to the sensor array.
