A restraint system includes a seatback and an airbag. The airbag includes two lateral portions and a central chamber connecting the lateral portions. When the airbag is inflated, each lateral portion includes a plurality of lateral chambers arranged consecutively from the seatback to the central chamber, and the lateral portions and central chamber define a gap positioned directly above and directly in front of space for a head of a 50th-percentile dummy sitting against the seatback.

Seatback-mounted restraint system

A vehicle includes a roof. The vehicle includes a front seat and a rear seat facing each other. The vehicle includes an airbag inflatable from the roof to an inflated position between the front seat and the rear seat. The airbag, in the inflated position, includes a first inflated leg, a second inflated leg spaced from the first inflated leg, and an inflated arced member extending from the first inflated leg to the second inflated leg, the inflated arced member including a top panel and a bottom panel spaced from each other and each arcing downwardly.

Vehicle airbag

An assembly includes a seat. The assembly includes a housing. The assembly includes an airbag inflatable to an inflated position having a first inflatable leg and a second inflatable leg extending from the housing, and an inflatable member extending from the first inflatable leg to the second inflatable leg. The assembly includes a tether having a first end fixed to the first inflatable leg and a second end spaced from the first end and the airbag.

Vehicle airbag system

Airbag assemblies can reduce rotational velocity of an occupant's head during a collision event. Some airbag assemblies include a first airbag cushion that is disposed forward of an occupant and a second airbag cushion that is disposed generally lateral to the occupant. When the occupant moves in an oblique direction during a collision event, the second airbag cushion may contact the head of the occupant and reduce its rotational velocity.

A seat bottom includes a frame, a first thigh support, a second thigh support, and a controller. The first thigh support and the second thigh support are each supported by the frame and are independently movable relative to the frame to adjustable positions. A first deployable device is coupled to the first thigh support, and a second deployable device is coupled to the second thigh support. At least one inflator is in fluid communication with at least one of the first and second deployable devices. The controller is programmed to independently inflate the first and second deployable devices based at least on the adjustable positions of the first and second thigh supports in response to a sensed vehicle impact.

An airbag module for a vehicle includes an inflator disposed behind an instrument panel and an airbag arrangement. The airbag arrangement includes a cushion section configured to receive an occupant during impact and a balloon section disposed proximate a base of the cushion section and adjacent the instrument panel such that, upon inflation, the balloon section contacts and pushes against the instrument panel. This forms a swell on the cushion section adjacent to the balloon section configured to hinder movement of the occupant toward the balloon section.

Passenger airbag with extended base

A seat bottom includes a frame, a first thigh support, and a second thigh support. The first thigh support and the second thigh support are each supported by the frame and independently movable relative to the frame. A first deployable device is coupled to the first thigh support, and a second deployable device is coupled to the second thigh support. At least one inflator is in fluid communication with at least one of the first and second deployable devices. The first and second deployable devices are each formed of thermoplastic elastomer and are inflatable from an undeployed position to a deployed position.

The first and second passive movement devices are configured to be actuated independently of one another.

A vehicle airbag comprises a primary chamber and a secondary chamber affixed to the primary chamber by a seam. A passage is defined between the primary chamber and the secondary chamber. The seam defines a closed shape, and an inner side of the seam is located between sides of the primary chamber, and is between sides of the secondary chamber.

A vehicle includes a dash panel and an airbag module disposed behind the dash panel. The airbag module includes an airbag assembly that defines, upon inflation in a presence of a passenger, a primary chamber adjacent to a passenger side of the vehicle and configured to cushion the passenger upon impact, and a secondary chamber attached to the primary chamber, arranged adjacent to a center of the vehicle, and configured to catch the passenger after impact. The secondary chamber has an end portion disposed adjacent to the passenger and a base opposite and wider than the end portion arranged to sit against the dash panel to orient the airbag assembly relative to the passenger.

High pressure airbag for oblique impact modes

An apparatus includes first and second cover segments adjacent one another and collectively defining a surface of an instrument panel for a vehicle in an installed position of the first cover segment and a support member spaced away from the first cover segment opposite the surface. The apparatus further includes a sidewall body extending between the first cover segment and the support member and enclosing a first volume therein and an inflator fluidly coupled to the first volume. When the inflator expands the first volume, the sidewall body extends away from the support member and respectively displaces the first cover segment to a deployed position away from the second cover segment.

Inflatable protection mechanisms for vehicle instrument panel

A vehicle airbag comprises a primary chamber, a secondary chamber affixed to the primary chamber, and a passage between the primary chamber and the secondary chamber. The primary chamber is configured to contact at least two reaction surfaces, and the secondary chamber is configured to contact one and only one of the at least two reaction surfaces, when the airbag is inflated upon detection of an impact.
