Proposed is a flexible cover window manufacturing method capable of simultaneously reinforcing a plane part and a folding part by using alkali-based metal ions having an ionic radius smaller than that of alkali-based metal ions contained in a glass. A flexible cover window manufactured using the same method is also proposed. The plane part and the folding part are simultaneously reinforced using alkali-based metal ions having a smaller ionic radius than alkali-based metal ions included in a glass to simplify the process, and the flexible cover window ensures strength and folding characteristics by controlling tensile stress of the entire part of the flexible cover window.

Method of manufacturing flexible cover window and flexible cover window manufactured using same

A cover window is provided, which is a flexible cover window, the cover window being a glass-based cover window for a flexible display and including: a folding part slimmed by corresponding to a folding area of the display, wherein a thickness (t) of the cover window is 50 to 300 μm and a thickness (t) of the folding part is 20 to 100 μm. The glass-based cover window has excellent strength and folding properties while maintaining the intrinsic texture of glass.

A method of manufacturing a flexible cover window is proposed. The flexible cover window includes a planar part and a folded part extending continuously from the planar part, wherein the folded part is thinner than the planar part. The method includes: forming a photoresist layer on a glass substrate, patterning the photoresist layer to form a gradation resist pattern layer for forming the folded part on the glass substrate, forming the folded part having an inclined portion formed between the folded part and the planar part using the gradation resist pattern layer as a mask, removing the gradation resist pattern layer, and reinforcing the glass substrate.

Proposed is a flexible cover window including a window substrate and an elastic buffer layer having a single-layer structure or a multi-layer structure. The elastic buffer layer is provided on the rear surface of the window substrate to absorb deformation occurring in a folding part. The flexible cover window is a glass-based cover window for protecting a flexible display that is foldable, rollable, slidable, or stretchable. In addition, the flexible cover window has an elastic buffer layer on the rear surface of the window substrate to reduce the difference in elongation between the window substrate and a display panel so that delamination or buckling due to micro-deformation at the folding part thereof can be prevented. Therefore, the life span of the flexible cover window is prolonged and distortion of an image on the screen at the folding part can be prevented.
